Should I size down to 44 Aero HWM?

This picture is my current HWM, it's black FQHH size 46. Great jacket but it's a little big in the body. Holly @ Aero has suggested sizing down to a 44 (For my new Brown Jacket). I don't know how much smaller a 44 is. I've been told the shoulders are only 1/2" smaller seam to seam so it may work. This pic is me pinching a few inches of the jacket together behind my back to show Holly how I'd like it to fit. I thought the shoulders were good, what do you guys think? Should I try sizing down to a 44? Another option Holly mentioned was making the new jacket 46 shoulders but 44 body.

To be honest Joe .. .the 46" looks great in the shoulders .... so it would be easier to alter the waist on this jacket rather than go through the pain with another. I'd suggest a decent tailor should be able to adjust this jacket to your requirements .... on the basis of this fit I think the 44 may be neat.

I'm buying a Brown Highwayman that's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm not gonna alter my current black one, it's fine, it looks good. Stock size 46 works well for me, but I got this one from ebay for half what a new one costs. If I'm gonna drop a grand on a jacket I would like a custom fit.

and if Aero can't / won't then an Alexanders Roadster can be made to your exact requirements ( and it's VERY close to a Highwayman in design)

I'd say a 46" with 4" off in the waist ( probably a 48" in Alexanders .. .their patterns are neater than Aero ... though not sure about the newer stuff) looks like it would do it ..... but I think it will look a little unlike what a highwayman was designed to look like ..... it's NOT a close fitting jacket more of a boxy cut loose but fitted jacket.

Still it's you're jacket, and you're paying ... you should be able to have it EXACTLY the way you want it. If you can't have that then don't buy ...... there's PLENTY of jackets out there.

First of all, I dont think you will ever get a Highwayman to fit like it does when you pinch it.

It should be closer with a jacket that fits tho.

Im having a hard time to see where your shoulders are, but the shoulder seam should not be outside your shoulder - if it is, then you can size down (as long as it is "big" in all other places aswell.)

My understanding is that a trimfit is the shoulder seam square, or not outside:

I agree with Griff. It looks from here that the seam is a bit off the shoulder, so I think a 44 would give you a much snugger fit.

I think front and back (not pinching/pulling the jacket) photos of the hwm being worn normally would help a lot. But, looking at your photos from your first post, it looks like you should have no problem sizing down.
It's my belief that most guys do anyway for this jacket.

I think the jacket in the picture looks a little big in sleeves and shoulder, and going down one size would work!

I think the real question here should be directed back at you. Do you think you should go to a 44? I think you want to. Size is personal. I like jackets that are roomy. Yours is close perfect by my standards. I am slim but I do not like a trim fitting jacket. I think they often look ghastly. But that's personal taste. I like jackets slightly off the shoulders, with room in the body. Since you are holding the jacket at the back to make it seem tighter than it is, I suspect that's the size you should get.
