The Federation is 2 3/4" but it is a dimensional cut brim so it is slightly narrower on the sides (Brim: 70mm x 63mm (Side)).

The Hippodrome is approximately 2 5/8" (see photo).

I'm pushed up firmly against the break the tolliker made between the vertical crown and the very front of the brim.

The photo was of the Hippodrome Hatters and not the Federation. The Fed's dimensions are well known and I did not modify this hat so I provided Akubra's specifications rather than measuring it.

Where are you measuring from?

I just looked at the photo I attached and I think I see what prompted your question. It's an illusion caused by perspective. The photo makes it appear that the end it the tape was halfway up the crown. I can assure you the brim width measurement was taken at the correct location.

I thought the photo would be more useful but it seems to have only muddied the waters. One of these days I'll stop overthinking things. In any case, the brim on the Hippodrome Hatters hat is near enough as to make no difference to 2 5/8 inches.
