I was going to pick up a bottle of Lottabody at Sally's. I knew that I had some but couldn't find any. Suddenly my husband comes in and says, "Do you want to keep this?"
He had found my Lottabody!

UK ladies, I recently starting using a new setting lotion that has worked really nicely for me. It's StaySet Setting Lotion Extra Firm and you can get it in Superdrug for about £2. I fill my little spray bottle with water then add a generous squirt of StaySet, and it holds my curls better than Lottabody ever has! :D

Are you meant to dilute it like Lottabody? I just used the superdrug one neat on wet hair! :-o

I usually use a homemade flaxseed setting lotion which I understand to be the same as the linseed setting lotion. However, I'm unable to continue making it at the moment due to complications with access, and so was wondering if there was an alternative? I know Lottabody is apparently much used, but I am staying away from chemicals in my hair at the moment. Not that I'm completly against them - just that my hair is healthy and cooperative for once and easy to care for and I don't want to mess that up..... So, is there an alternative to flaxseed setting lotion that is preferably available at Walmart or the equivalent that works with no-poo methods of hair care?

Thank you!

I always do - I'd get through it too quickly otherwise!

@Helena Grace - some of my hair styling books suggest beer as a setting lotion. I haven't tried it myself; but it says to let the beer go flat overnight and apply it straight. The smell should evaporate away! I have also read that plain old sugar water works great.

Recently stumbled across The Leopard Lounge, an Australian hair salon with products specifically made for vintage styling (http://theleopardlounge.com.au/collections/ladies-atomic-hair-products). The prices aren't justifiable for me considering I do fine with my £2 lotion, but the packaging is gorgeous and it's interesting that they're made from original 50s recipes. I wonder if it makes much of a difference? Have any of you ladies tried their products?

Beer? I had heard that before - but I only have negative memories and associations with that stuff. That, and I really couldn't procure it - but I would go with chemicals before using it. My apologies - I had heard it worked though.

Sugar water? Wouldn't that be a terror come summer and heat and bugs?

Argan oil is my new favorite beauty tool, and I like it for setting my curls!

Pin-curling is still a new adventure for me. My hair is fine and naturally curly (/wavy), so I'd never had a good-enough reason to tackle pin-curls. However, I'd wanted a way to wash my medium-length hair, go to bed, and wake up with hair looking more done than frizzy and slept-in. I'm trying to reduce my morning routine, so pin-curls were worth another try. Understanding that product would reduce frizz but apprehensive about transferring product from my hair to my pillowcase to my skin, I wanted something I'd use just as readily on my face. Argan oil to the rescue. :)

On second-day hair, two drops of argan oil per pin curl (I do 8) gave me one of the best hair days I'd had in a while: no frizz and curls that behaved all day.
