There's one for sale on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1990s-Vint...torcycle-Leather-Jacket-38-j-100/173908191068

It's a stunning cafe racer style jacket. I assume RMC discontinued the model/style. How's it differ from the J-100? What years did they produce it? Anybody have a 44 or 46 they'd be willing to sell to me ;)?

I absolutely love the brown zipper tape on a black/teacore jacket. The contrast between black & brown looks gorgeous and matches the brown worn areas so well. It has me considering spec'ing a black/teacore CR with brown zip tape. If the ebay listing is accurate and this is a jacket from the 90's I'm guessing finding one in my size will be difficult/impossible.

Nothing in Rin Tanaka's motorcycle jacket book about the model and a search here comes up with very little as well. Thanks for any help.

Just at a really quick glance it seems like the chest pockets are a bit lower.

I can be completely mistaken but it also looks like there is a side panel on this model as opposed to the J-100 where front panel meets the back panel creating one seam at the side. This is why I’ve never went for the J-100 as it creates this kind of bulging or puffing in the back. I’ve never seen a back shot of a J-100 that sits flat on the back of the wearer.

And I don’t think I’ve seen an RMC J-100 with gunmetal hardware, but RMC has put out so many variations on this and I’m by no means an expert so again I could be mistaken.

Also the bottom of the front panels are rounded here whereas on the J-100 they are at a 90 degree angle.

Thanks @jeo, I was hoping you'd chime in given your experience with so many different models. Much appreciated.

More pictures from the listing for reference:

Buco j-100 keeps going for another couple of inches in the front past the zip end and it seems like a longer fitting jacket overall.

I think this is one of the variations of RM's Buco J-57.

Looks like these are made in New Zealand (3rd link) and that would make them early models made at the Few's factory. So the seller's description that these are made before 2000
The other variation is just a shortened J-100 without side panel and I think those are later models. I remember seeing those shortened J-100 in a 20xx RM catalogue.

I'm commenting on this older thread so that others can benefit from our discussion/findings. I'm curious myself what the differences are as well. After doing some research, I uncovered that this model, j-57, is not discontinued at least not in fabric and is still in the fairly current catalog https://www.realmccoys.co.jp/catalog/products/detail.php?product_id=4099. The obvious differences between J-57 and j-100 are shorter body in proportion to the sleeves as already noted on this thread. The other visual difference is that sleeves have cuff like extensions that line up with the bottom of the body of the jacket. Kind of as if somebody tried to extend too short sleeves. Kinda of ironic because buco RMC j-100 sleeves are a bit short for me and if I ever buy a used one I'll have to take the similar approach.

They're not extensions, it's just a row of stitching to hold the lining in place mid wrist.
The J-24 has the same thing:

What @Carlos840 says, though for the most part, it doesn't even do that. It's called a false cuff. It's just a decorative detail. Found on many uniforms all over the world. The detail migrated to leather jackets, that's all.
