Watched the Seabiscuit movie last night and saw a lot of nice vintage leather jackets and wool coats from that era.
I have my Aero leather Half-Belt but always liked the plaid wool jackets of that era. Does anyone make those style of wool jackets anymore? I would love to have a Half-Belt style Wool/Plaid jacket made if I could find someone who makes or sells them. I know Aero would make one if you sent them the fabric, but does anyone sell or make those type of jacket? Thank You!

Yes. The jackets in this movies were awesome. I would try to search for a "mackinaw" on ebay. Here is a thread

I have also seen very beautiful reproduction of leather/wool jackets but I can't remember the maker (they are out of my price range...that's why)

I've seen a couple of Aero Barnstormers made in waxed cotton-canvas... Might be worth contacting Aero and asking them what they can do. A half-belt made of the same wool as my Waterfront would be an interesting jacket.

The one note of caution I'd sound would be to be careful what you do with a jacket as fitted as a Thirties Halfbelt. Make it too roomy for layering and it won't sit right on your body, and might not be enough for colder weather while being too warm for warmer weather. Ask Aero, though - they know their stuff!

Seabiscuit is one of my favorite horse racing type films - just love the whole period feel and the clothes are a treat. The main leather jacket is a real beauty!

Aero Half-Belt in Wool Plaid/At the Waterfront

Saw the movie Seabiscuit in early March and all the great wool jackets, and I just received my leather Aero Half-Belt in January so I started thinking I would really like a Half-Belt in wool.
I e-mailed Amanda at Aero and asked if they could make me a Half-Belt in wool (the black and green "On the Waterfront" check pattern) and she said they could.
Well I received it yesterday and it turned out really nice. I am very pleased and the fit and all the small details I requested turned out perfect.
It is basically a 50's Half-Belt/Selkirk, in wool black/green pattern. I will post some pics when I can get my daughter to take them and post them for me!

That's cool. Since I am not into leather jacket I would prefer a wool halfbelt myself. I am goin to have get mix of a cotton chore jacket and a halfbelt soon. If it turns out good I will get a wool version next.
