I've been watching Ebay for months for a nice Stetson Whipett. Finally found one - and the seller didn't know what it was. Fortunately a photo of the lining showed the name "Whipett" and I was successful in buying it. I'm not sure whether it was ever worn - it's in beautiful shape.

It's a lovely chocolate brown color - I like it so much I've used a photo of it for my profile. Youll see it in the photo next to this post.

I'm really happy about this find!

Gotta love those ignorant sellers!

Last week I got a Biltmore Cavalier fedora that was described as a "Billmore" and that the hat was "genuine leather". Accompanying the listing was a horrible photo that made the charcoal grey hat look dark brown. I took a chance and bid the $14.99. Turns out it's a really nice lid and the sweatband is genuine leather!

Looks like a really good deal you got, there, Pilgrim.

I've been looking for a Whippet off and on for a while too. Guess I was off when that one came up. ;)

Looks like a good score, and it looks great on you.

The only thing better than finding the hat you've been looking for is having it look so good when you put it on! Congratulations on a very nice find! :)

I'm fortunate in that I live in Fort Collins, CO, near Greeley where the well-known Greeley Hatworks is located (http://www.greeleyhatworks.com/). It's a wonderful place with very sharp people and much of their gear is more than 100 years old. I took it to them for blocking and they did a superb job. After investing less than $80 in hat and blocking, I have a very nice Stetson.

At the same time, they also shaped up a 50+ year old Open Road for me - also an Ebay find. They're out there if you watch long enough.

Thanks for the kind words, friends.

Coming from a BIG Vintage Stetson fan, that is a nice whippet. I stopped counting after I reached five so I can say I have a few Whippets. The hardest colors to find seem to be the Navy blue and the green. The grays, browns and tans are easier to find. They are great hats with a style all their own.
Stetson ruined the Whippet name in the 1960s with the Whippet II. It has a stingy brim and very weak styling. You will run across them once in a while. If you do, RUN AWAY. ;)

Regards to all,

J
