Schott 613 or 613S

Hello everyone

I’m new to this forum so please forgive me if I’m repeating a former topic. I’m in the market for a new jacket... the ex took the lovely vintage brando style jacket I had been using on the bike, so I need to replace it. My question is about the Schott Perfecto 613 which is described as a slim fit. The shorter waist sounds good because the old jacket was longer than 25” and it would ride up in the shoulders when I sat on the bike.. poking out at the belly.

With regards to sizing, I’m 5’10”, 220, 44” chest, 37” waist, 20” shoulder to shoulder, so a fit muscular build. Typically MC jackets which fit my chest and shoulders are too baggy in the torso/waist, so the description of the Schott 613 as slim fit got my attention.

That said I like a snug fit so based on Schott’s fitting guide I am looking at the 613 in a size 44. Question is do I go with the football sleeves or the 613S with the swing back only? The S also having narrower sleeves, though I’m not sure by how much... I know the sleeves on the 613 are 9” halved at the bicep. The S also has a slightly narrower shoulder measurement than the standard 613.

Any advice greatly appreciated. The jacket will be used predominantly for riding.

Thanks

Matthew

If I were you, or me, I would not get the S. I much prefer a regular to wide shoulder. I think with your shoulder size you would not be able to move in a S.

I would order both your chest size and the next size up in the 613 and return one.

I think you will find if you check the Schott size charts carefully you will find the waist isn't much smaller than the chest.

Thank you... I have tried a 618 in size 46 and it was too big in the waist. Schott advised the 613/618 are the same cut and the waist approx. 4” narrower than chest size. I should add I’m from Australia... very little choice here... the local distributor for Schott had a 613 in a 40” and a 618 in 46”... they don’t do individual orders...(roll eyes)! I could squeeze into the 40”, lol, so I know the 25” back length is fine. But yes as you say... it’s the shoulders.

I think once I ordered the 118 in size 40 and returned it. It was too tight for me. I have a 40 chest and I think the 118 cut is even one up from the 613/618.

Have you thought about going custom for a couple extra hundred with a different maker?

Ie Johnson Leather, aero, langlitz. Have had multiple of each and I am a big fan.

Sir, you are the perfect candidate for a Vanson model E. Negligible difference in price. Quantum leap in quality. I’d suggest a size 44” Model E highwayman. Off the rack it simply can’t be beat as a proper riding jacket. We are of similar size, you can see much more of the jacket here:

I believe another member here has a brand new one for sale in your size as well. It’s worth a look.

Mate where in Australia are you ? I have a number of Schott variants in 44 that you are welcome to try on for size.

IF you are in Perth WA or close of course !

Some variants are "extra trim" in the fit so don't be put off by "the numbers"

Hi mate

I’m in Sydney... bugga! But thanks for the offer. Having tried the 618 in a 46 and the 613 in a 40 I’m confident the 44 will be fine. It was more a question overvthr football sleeves or just the swing back sleeves of the 613S.

No worries mate. Just over a year ago I sold a Schott "Police" jacket in 44. Brand "new old stock" from the very early 1980's. Sold it on Aussie Gumtree
Schott model number 624

Very V shaped torso , similar to the "Marlon Brando" jacket. Police "pistol pocket" etc etc.

That was just about the time many US Police departments switched to "textile" jackets apparently !

Really cool jacket , I just had so many I did not ever even take the tags and labels off it.

Sold it to a "born again" biker in Sydney so there you go

Never seen the 624 before, nice.

If I had OP's chest to waist drop, I'd be looking at Aero's take on the Perfecto. Don't know about Aus, but these days the price difference between Aero and Schott has greatly narrowed in the UK, and tbh my 618 is nowhere near the quality of the Aero equivalent - albeit a perfectly respectable jacket in its own right. I don't think the 613 is radically differently cut, so can be quite boxy....

Email Schott for a 613S sizing chart. I had one around and checked and frankly, I don't think any of the sizes would work for you. You would need a 46 in the chest, but that would be too narrow in the shoulder and too long in the body. You can always request a custom order (for more money).

I don't like the regular 613 because of the underarm footballs and too-high belt.

Thanks all for your input. I’ve actually decided to go with a Vanson Chopper! Lol.

I like the hybrid collar and the padded shoulders. Thurston Bros are sending me a “fitting” jacket and will make alterations if needed.

They also do it in nickel fasteners, which I prefer over brass, and can do the red quilted lining or a lighter plaid... I love red.

Question now is the competition weight hide or the Z150? They are sending samples.

I have had both. Much prefer the comp weight no question. Harder break in, but once broken in much nicer imo
