Sad News: Fading Sounds of an Elegant Manhattan

Today's NY Times has an article that the Waldorf Astoria is laying off singer/pianst Daryl Sherman. She is one of the last of her kind in elegant NYC hotels. I had the good fortune of sipping martini's and listening to Sherman play standards on Cole Porter's piano. Another sad example of the degradation of culture in our world.

The big hotel chains are being sold to investors, typically the kind of people who don't have the time or desire for entertainment. Their idea of a fun night out is bankrolling the next Hollywood action epic, followed by dinner at Insert Trendy French Chef Here.

People like this give suits a bad name.
