By chance, I found a very nice exhibition about daily life in Italy in the earliest post-war period. Lots of art, posters, stills and clips from the neo-realist films, etc., and quite a few period costumes:

Apparently, the midriff-less number is a costume used by Gina Lollobrigida in one of her films - ba-da-bing, I say:
