Posting here, so I can remember to post in here.

I post tunes up every Tuesday. Seriously need more Tuesdays, as I can't ever decide what to play.

I'm really getting into a lot of Western Swing at the moment. You can really hear the direct influence to Rockabilly and Rock n Roll in general. Stuff like this is great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5eK70cAll4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSAP7TF59ak&feature=related

And the old stuff like Spade Cooley and Bob Wills etc...

I'm trying to put something like this together, but unfortunately I live on the east coast.....

I will be doing a Western Swing feature on my radio show in the near future with Jimmy Roy as my guest; he played pedal steel guitar for the late, great Ray Condo and for Big Sandy.

Are you talking about Jimmy Sutton who played bass in the Mighty Blue Kings?

I use to catch them in Chicago in the early 90's.

Always a good time!

Ooh! The Podcast with Paul Pigat had some nifty tunes on it, so I'll be eagerly awaiting this one - not that I don't eagerly await every podcast. Job well done keeping it rolling on your marathon fill-ins the last few 'casts.

Too bad Spade didn't have a longer career, but, well....yeah....(Not that I think he should have gone free or anything like that.)

Rev Horton Heat (only some of his stuff, the rest is gross)
:eeek: Take it back, take it back!

"Ranch Road 2222" and a song people call "Longest, Gonest Man" are two of my (Band/Label has never ID'd the song on their site) of my all-time favourite RHH songs, but they were never recorded (in studio, that is).

I haven't dipped into the Rockabilly/Psychobilly stuff in quite a while, but when I used to, it was a lot of:
The Alley Dukes (They have an amusing song called "If this ain't Rockabilly, you can *blank-blank-blank*" where they rip on all the cookie-cutter rockabilly cats) *most of their lyrics are "naughty"*
The Matadors (More towards the Horrorbilly end of the spectrum)
The Brains (Again, Horrorbilly)
Rev. Horton Heat
Nekromantix, Horror Pops, Rezurex, Mad Sin, Hellbillies, Tiger Army, Sasquatch and the Sick-a-billies
Duke Sedan and the Hi-Tones

A smattering of Elvis, Carl, Ray Condo, Stray Cats, R.J. and the Phantoms, Johnny Burnette

fwiw, I think THE best recording of "That's All Right Mama" was played by Johnny Hallyday and the Stray Cats. As per usual, Setzer tears the place to pieces on the solo.

Just remembered that I forgot these guys

Hello,

I was alerted to this thread.

I love some Rockabilly but Rock'n'Roll is my thing.

Can I recommend some great stuff that I've heard at Rockin' do's over the years.

This isn't slap bass Stray Cat's type stuff.... more like Little Richard type stuff that you might not know.

Thanks for listening.

Lee.

Great tunes Lee! I think I speak for most Rockabilly fans here in saying that it's not only about just Rockabilly; we love that late 40's-mid 50's sound, from R&B to straight up Hillbilly. I think most weekenders here in the States and worldwide cater to all styles as well!
