Red Seersucker Suit

I've been looking around trying to find an affordable (maximum $200) Red and White Striped Seersucker suit. I think that combination looks very nice together and is an authentic 1920s look. However it's been hard to find one the type I want and two my size, which would be maximum a Men's 38. I'm not even sure if that would fit however. My waist is about 27" but I could probably let off 2-3" of a pant too big. I'd also like some growing room, but not TOO much because a suit even a slight too big looks clumsy; not the same with a shirt. This look would look good with a straw boater hat:

I know you're thinking I'm going to look like I'm in a barber shop quartet, but I admire the look and it's very dapper!

Thank you! I couldn't find a place online where Haspel sold its merchandise; only retail. Unfortunately it seems the red/white variety isn't sold in my size or any close size. Any other retailer for Haspel?

Thank you! It also is a very 20s look. Every man had a boater then; it was a wardrobe staple. It also brings back memories of the late 19th century in France. You can see in many impressionist paintings with a man wearing a boater, as shown:

That's a BEAUTIFUL suit! I love the size a width of the stripes! Perfect! Not too wide, not too thin so it looks uncrinkled! I love the vest! A different take on a usually 2-piece classic! Do you have a tailored suit from them, or just dreaming?

It seems many people on this site get ripped-off by buying "authentic vintage" when you could get the same style, materials, size, etc for a much cheaper price on a bargain site such as eBay or at sales in retail stores. I've found very high-quality linen and cotton suits for $60 at deep-discount! Get them when they are "last year's styles". It doesn't really matter for us, because we're already 90-45 years behind in our clothing!

I meant no harm to anyone about people's choices in clothing! I'm just trying to help!

I think I may end with the search, and (don't laugh!) have my mother expertly tailor a red and white seersucker suit! I'd need about 8 sq yrds at the most of fabric, including the jacket lining of fabric. I found a great deal on 100% cotton red and white pincord seersucker fabric here:

$4.19 per yard! A very good deal indeed! It'd cost at most $50 for it all including the lining and buttons, for we already have the sewing machine, thread, suit pattern in my size etc. My mother is an expert at sewing, so I'm getting a job done usually worth $1000+!

You may be able to get new suits for less, but they don't match the level of detailing, the cut and fit, the superior construction or the quality of material that authentic vintage does.

I hope the home-made one turns out well! Hopefully that way you can get exactly what you want.

Yes, I suppose you're true, but even "vintage-styled" suits are made with a general size, and even if the cut is perfect for someone in that size it usually is either too big or small by a little, or the shape may be different if they wore it. Of course you need a tailor to have a perfect suit, and I would much rather spend good money on a tailor then a vintage-styled suit.

Sorry, cuz, there hain't no boaters in that-there Rain-waar, jus' regular bound-brim straws. I think a boater and your custom red seersucker will look great together...

[huh] Unmatched? Are you sure? The stripes on the breast pocket match the jacket's chest stripes perfectly. As for 'patchy', I agree with you. It's a bit much.
