Real McCoy's Deck Jacket zipper replacement options?

I have a Real McCoy deck jacket size 44 and the fabric behind the male insertion end of the zipper has broken. I know there are temporary repairs and I've read some of the posts on this topic, but I want a permanent solution, and I'm wondering if anyone else here has replaced a Real McCoy's zipper. My questions:

-What would you recommend as a good quality replacement? I love the look of the repro Talon but I'm more concerned with something that will last.

-How do I determine the size exactly?

-Is this something a competent tailor can do here in Chicago?

Thanks!

If you want a vintage reproduction, try a YKK Universal.

To determine the size of the zip currently on the jacket, zip the jacket and measure across the chain. The size will be in MM.

But you don't need to worry about replacing the original size. Just replace with a #10. That size is robust enough to last 5 times as long as a #6 zip.

Replacing a zipper is not a difficult job for a professional.
