Question Regarding Head Measurement

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get your opinion on getting your head measured by a custom hatter;
Would you get a haircut before you go to get sized or would you wait until your hair was a bit longer?

The reason I ask is that I have a certain someone measuring my head for a custom hat soon and it has been a little while since I have had a haircut. If I get one now, I am just afraid that it will not fit correctly when it grows out a bit and be too tight. If I measure it now, though, with my hair a bit longer, I am afraid it will fit incorrectly when I do chop it down. Since it is a custom hat, I just want to make sure it fits perfectly.

I'd get a haircut and then wait a couple of weeks - about half of your normal time between haircuts. You already realize the potential problem, so just stick it out a bit longer for the right fit.

The cut of your hair can certainly make a differance when it comes to fitting hats.

If you get the hat custom made with full hair you can wear it with short hair by padding the sweatband. If you fit the hat with hair cropped very short you may not be able to wear it comfortably with a fuller head of hair.

Either way, enjoy your new hat -

I would say depends on how fast your hair grows and if you going to change the style. I wouldn't cut your hair and measure. I have my hair cut once a month and for myself I would wait until at least week three and measure.

Cut the hair first.

Then get fitted - when the hair grows and if gets tight, well 'tis but a reminder to go to the barber again! :rolleyes:

That's a really good point!! That may be the direction I use. Thank you, Topper!!
