question about possible defect on lost worlds jacket

Hi there,
I had never heard about horsehide jackets and some of the premium brands like aero and lost worlds until I came to this forum. Seems like a great resource here.

I ordered my first HH jacket from lost worlds and it came today! Upon inspecting it I noticed some features in the leather I had never seen before and didn't know if these are normal with HH or a defect of some kind. Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!

I've had this on some of my jackets... Manufacturers usually don't consider it a problem since it's actually natural scaring, provided you've got the same thing going on on your jacket. The hide is slightly weaker at those points, but definitely not as thin as what you describe. I would contact LW.

Is that their mid-weight HH?

Ordered the replacement and sending back to union garage. Thanks for help everyone it is much appreciated. I did actually talk to Stuart as well as I wanted to know what weight the union garage jackets were and he let me know they are 3.5oz. We talked about the pros and cons of the different weights and in the end i decided to stick with the 3.5oz...mostly because this is a riding jacket. Stuart was really knowledgeable and really nice to talk to. Assuming this next one works out I can see myself ordering some more jackets from him. I'm actually really bummed to send the jacket back...I don't want to give it up! It fits absolutely great. I used race motorcycles, so I know what I'm looking for as far as protection while I'm riding and this jacket is the bees knees. I don't see how you could every burn through it sliding along the pavement.

FWIW I also ordered a Schott 641 at the same time to compare and see what I liked better as I had no experience with either. I have to be honest I really didn't care for the Schott at all. Especially for a "slimmer" cut than the 141 it was very blousy and was substantially lighter than the Lost Worlds jacket. So the Schott is going back.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm glad this was sorted out thought yeah, odd business this went past Stu.

Lord, could we see some more photos of the jacket once you get the replacement? Don't get that many LW's around here.

Glad it got sorted out! I second above request, I'd really like to more LW jackets around here. I have a J.A. Dubow coming up in May/June, so I'll post some pics of that.

What style did you order?

if it is only top paint, and everything else fit alright... can't it get a repaint somewhat? leather sofa in much worse condition can get fixed like new again.

Good to hear you got the issue sorted out. Union Garage are good folks. I bought my LW Buco Rider, as well as a bunch of moto stuff from them these past years. My LW has been giving me good service, worn it on several multi-day moto trips (with Bohn and Knox armored undershirts underneath), also have gone down a few times on dirt roads, lots of "character" on it now - bumps, scratches, etc. but with armored undershirt and my thick LW outside, I have come out with nary a scratch on me, many times with not even a sore body part from the falls!

If not too much trouble, mate, could you post a pic of your Buco Rider? I've been eyeing that jacket for ages and there are hardly any good pics of it out there, especially 'worn' pics.

To everyone asking for pics I will do my best to give it a proper review with pics of the jacket as well as pics of me wearing it. To clarify it is the Easy Ryder jacket...not sure if that is the same as the Buco, but regardless I will do as good a review as I can based on my limited knowledge.

Wil try & get something up. It's pretty similar to your Easy Ryder, difference probably being chest pocket and throat-latch-thingy.

Hope attached pic comes thru - taken last year, riding in Bhutan.

More pics - most from last year, riding to the far corner of Bhutan. One pic from when jacket was new outside Union Garage NYC.

Schott calling the 641 "slimmer" is really a play on words... Basically the 641 fits a size smaller than the 141, so a size 44 641 will be exactly the same as a size 42 141!
It's not "slimmer", it's one size smaller. I own a Schott 644, and although it is a nice jacket it is indeed a pretty baggy cut.
Large shoulders, short arms, huge belly! I had mine tailored, and we ended up removing a good 2 inches from the bottom hem to make it fit, and it is still larger than most jackets in the same size i own.

I think their target market is chubby biker type, not the athletic type.
