Porkpies with 2 inch brim (not stingy)?

I'm looking for ones in brown, gray, tan and black. A friend of mine already gave me a good link to some killer straw ones for the summer.

I want to invest in some nice ones, so please don't post any links to cheap-o's, but I wouldn't expect anything less than the best from loungers.

Here's what Wikipedia says about how Buster Keaton made his pork pie hats:

"Keaton designed and fabricated many of his own pork pie hats during his career. In 1964, he told an interviewer that in making the pork pie, he started with a good Stetson hat and cut it down, stiffening the brim with concentrated sugar water. The hats were often destroyed during Keaton's wild movie antics; some were given away as gifts and some were snatched by souvenir hunters. Keaton said he was lucky if he used only six hats in making a film. Keaton estimated that he and his wife Eleanor made thousands of the hats during his career."

I would imagine you could find something better than sugar water.

Actually,you can shape any hat at all, anyone you like into a porkpie crease. Why not give this a try before even ordering one, custom or not.....just to see if you even like the look on you or not.

Not sure what you're looking for but I've always loved this Bailey Pork straw. Stylin and not too stingy. Very comfortable as all my Bailey straws are.

Jings, there can't be too many big name stars of today that would put that sort of effort into making their own props and wardrobe.... Then Keaton was much more than "only" the stars of his films, wasn't he?

As to porkpies.... I have a couple... One is an Akubra, The Rap, from Hats Direct. Seems only to be available in black, but were it readily available in other colours I'd consider it too. I actually bought this one for wearing with Ted gear. (Can't find a decent photo atm.... bah). The brim is only 44mm, so it's a quarter of an inch off the 2". Normally that would be far too short for my tastes as well, but it looks pretty good...

I also have a poly-straw one in a grey colour that I bought from My Baby Jo last year, as well as a black poly-chord type one. I picked them up on sale, I think - if memory serves, I paid about thirty dollars apiece. Not the most outstanding hats in the world, but plenty serviceable. There is an appreciable step up in quality between these and my Akubra Capricorns, but these fulfill a different function. One of these gets lost or stolen, less of a big deal.

I really like the shape of this one. It's definitely solid and wouldn't take being sat on, though it is softening with time. I like this hat a lot. Brim is just on the 2", if memory serves. I bought the version with the unpinched crown as I already had a grey Akubra Capricorn on the way, though if I ever wanted I'm sure I could add dents with just a little steam.

This black one has a certain rakish style. A wider brim (region of 2 1/2") great fun hat to wear in the Summer whether casual or with a suit. Actually, with a 50s suit it kinda reminds me of the silhouette of Jude Law at the Italian jazz festival in that glorious mid Fifties suit in The Talented Mr Ripley.

Don't know that I'd pay full price for them (on top of shipping to the UK...), but on sale they were a reasonable deal. These are enough for me for Summer (the other straws I want now are mainly Milano hombergs). I do quite fancy a couple more, wider brimmed furfelt pps for the Winter, though.

There tons of vintage 2" brim hats on ebay. I got two Dobbs from there and made a porker from one.
