Planetary Alignment

LostInTyme

Practically Family
January and February will see two remarkable planetary alignments, with one of them offering stargazers a chance to witness a celestial spectacle that will not be repeated for another 400 years.

On Friday January 17 and Saturday January 18, six planets will line up in the night sky in an event that astronomers refer to as a planetary parade.

Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn Uranus and Venus will appear together in a row, although Neptune and Uranus will only be visible with binoculars or a telescope.

My question is, what type of binoculars or telescope can you purchase that will let you see Uranus?

Despite the invitation to the inevitable double entendre, in mythology Uranus was named after the Greek god of the sky. According to mythology, he was the father of Saturn and the grandfather of Jupiter.

Uranus planetary rings are thin, narrow, and dark compared to the rings of other planets. They are actually so dark that they reflect about as much light as charcoal. The rings may have been formed by the break up of a small moon. They were discovered in 1977 by astronomers using the Kuiper Airborne Observatory.
