I thought the lovely ladies of the lounge might be interested in my current obsession, Persephone Books. They're an amazing publishers that specialise in reprinting neglected classics by twentieth century and (mostly) female writers. Most of their titles are from the 30s/40s and include novels, short stories, diaries, 'how-to' guides and cookery books.

As well as having fascinating content they are beautiful to look at. Each book has a dove-grey jacket and the inside cover a different print (taken from period textiles) with matching bookmark.

As well as a few charming outlets in London you can also order online.

Ah, yes, I've got their edition of Miss Pettigrew - lovely!

(and a cracking story, too, with the original illustrations! Which reminded me of the ones in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - I suppose it was just the style of illustration that they used then).
