Hello,

Recently I have been reading about the Pelikan M150 fountain pen and I have been wondering if any of the members of the Lounge could tell me how it compares to the Parker Vacumatic in size. I have a Vacumatic and it feels good in the hand, so I thought I'd ask--I'm not really used to anything else!

I have heard that the M150 is a very good pen for the price--I'd be glad to hear what you-all think of it too. Thanks folks!

The Pelikan M150 is roughly the same size as the M400 I have, and that feels comparable to the Vac Standards I've had. You cannot go wrong with a Pelikan; I can't say enough good things about them. :eusa_clap

Excellent! I think I will try the M150. Do you have a good source for ordering a 150? The lowest price I can find them for is on Swisher pens, and it's about $65 with shipping. Not bad, but I like the best deal I can find!

You can't do any better than Chuck Swisher, price or service, period! :eusa_clap

I've purchased 3 pens from Swisher and all shipped very quickly. It will be tough to wait, but it will be well worth it. You've got yourself the Akubra Campdraft of pens!

I hate to tell you this but the 150 is a bit smaller than the 200/400 series. I have both, but even though I have large paws, both sizes are very nice to write with. The 150 was my first Pelikan, then a 400 and a 215.....you get the picture. Probably the best fountain pens available today. Mine write well with anything, but love Private Reserve American Blue and MB Racing Green ink.

I like small to a point. My hands are medium to small for a man. Right now I am mainly using a Parker Sonnet, and it is a bit large and heavy. It does write pretty nicely. If the M150 is close to a Vacumatic in size it should be fine--if not I'll have to try a larger Pelikan like maybe the m200 ( more $$).

PS, I just looked on Swisher pens and it said the m150 measures 4 3/4 without lid/cap. I don't have my Parker Vacumatic with me at this moment, but that seems to be pretty close in length.

I have a Sonnet, too, and I don't like it much; the nib dries out and it hesitates, no matter what I do. You're right, it is a heavy pen, but that's because it's a metal pen; the Pelikan will be much lighter.

With normal size hands, you will love the Pelkan. As I said, my hands are 2xl in size for gloves and I carry my 150 everyday as my work pen. Very lightweight also and holds about 6 gallons of ink.

I finally got the pen. It's pretty nice! It is about the exact size of my Vacumatic. With the lid on it's shorter, but thats just how they designed it. While writing it is close in length to the 1937 Parker Vacumatic.

I have a number of Pelikans, 8 in all but don't have an M150 or M300 yet, with only one exception all I have are really great writers.

I think Pelikan is still making their own nibs and in the Souvreign type fountain pens has 10 nibs available in the various sizes Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Double Broad, Triple Broad, with Oliques in OM, OB, OBB, OBBB. I also think the Obliques are right and lefty versions but I am not sure. I had seen a chart indicating the pens that come with steel nibs like the M200 or M215 can be swapped out for their M400 gold nibs. They have several nib size ranges that link to the size of the pen. The nib for the M1000 is pretty big for a modern pen. I recall seeing the nib and feed screw out much like the Esterbrook type of nibs but the nib and feed are not attached like Esterbrook.

I have the M1000, M800, M605, M400, M200, M215 and a vintage 140 plus an M75 which are rarely seen in the US. All are piston fillers which use the body for the container of the ink so they hold quite a bit when filled.

Even with the big difference in size all of these are comfortable to to hold and write with, my exception is the M605 only because I got it with a Double Broad Oblique nib. It writes well when you hold it in the "just right" angle but that angle is off a bit from my natural hold. I am considering having that nib reshaped to a stub if possible.

I don't recall hearing any people that were disappointed with their Pelikan Souvreign fountain pens and they are reccomended heartily by their users.
