Why would a library sell a resource like those??? Mmmm

Because they thin their stacks to make room for new books. Out goes little borrowed titles and duplicates. They also ask the public to donate books to sell. With the money they make, it goes to buying more books, DVDs, CDs, etc...

If only we financed libraries enough that they didn't have to do this but.....

I'll avoid assuming you were accusing me of theft!

I have a whole bookcase devoted to library sale items. Glad to see they went to a good home, Brian Sheridan! They were probably on the expensive book sale table, too? ;)

Your library orders books at about 40% off the list price of the publisher, so they should be able to get a new book from your amazing purchases. There are some good new books out there, too.
Library fines go toward the running of the city or county services, including the library, and not directly to the library as is the popular opinion. Or it was that way in Erie last time I heard. Book sale monies go toward new book purchases, indeed.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Those are great finds!

Lincoln's Papers

Many years ago my mother (who was a serious Civil War buff) found the Nicolay and Hay (Lincoln's collected papers) that belonged to Albion Tourgee in the sale bin at the local Mayville NY library. Tourgee was a very important Federal judge during reconstruction, and is one of the most important original sources for that period. He spent his last years in Mayville NY. She, appreciating its significance, grabbed it.
Never throw anything away!!!

Great finds Brian!

I'm a big fan of library book sales and have been attending them for over 20 years. I've found numerous great books over the years and it's nice to know that the money goes to a good cause.
