Although the sticker on the bottom indicates a sale date of 1983, based upon the color and the rotary dial, I would judge this phone to be solidly from the 1970s. With the same great tanklike construction that characterized all Western Electric phones, this one has a modular RJ11 jack in the back facilitating easy changing of wall cords. It's in very nice condition, the color is beautiful. there are two small cracks radiating from the cradle on the front, but they are not terribly noticeable. It's fully functional, and sounds great.

I also have a very interesting silver plated decorative handset cover listed separately

Wow really nice looker, what does a person have to do to make this phone actually work now? I ask as from what I "think" has happened with phone lines being digital now, is there some sort of a "gizmo" needed to plug this into and then you plug the gizmo into your phone jack in your home, or, am I misinformed?

Just plug it right into a regular telephone line, pick up the receiver and twirl the dial as far as I know. That's what I did to test it. If you have some other system than POTS (Plain old telephone system) it may not work, or may need some sort of converter, but as far as I know that's the exception, and not the rule.
