This Odalisque (1874) was painted by Jules Joseph Lefebvre, and is one of the most famous and traditional. Note how the painting takes emphasis off the primary features of the face, such as the nose, even to the extent of concealing the chin completely. Instead, the only major facial feature that receives attention is the ear, which is highlighted by the hair heaped atop the head. The woman's back is smooth, with no sign of the ribs, and in the lower back there are two dimples adding extra emphasis to the fat present in the woman's buttocks and thighs.

visiting the Louvre in Paris recently and saw many, many paintings like this. Just breathtaking most all of them.

Thank you for the information:) Call me crazy but those dimples are a most desirable feature on a lady:eek:

Wow. Being single (widowed) and 62, you people are giving me ideas. ;)

You are NEVER 62 Dan! I would have placed you at least 10 years younger then that!

For the record, I'm 27 and I'm dating a 40 year old, and it's absolutely brilliant. I have been waiting all my (dating) life for someone like him, older, wiser (somewhat lol ) and gentlemanly. And independent, financially and personality-wise (I have spent too much time and money supporting exes). But fun with it... we have a laugh as well as me thinking he's the most handsome man I've ever seen. He thinks I'm the bees knees too (according to other people), and I'm the youngest (as in age gap) girl he's ever dated. But I have an old head on me, and he says he doesn't feel 40, so maybe it's the perfect match. :)

A beautiful painting and, as noted by Foofoogal, lovely dimples.

As noted by Chas, "As far as bigger women are concerned, I have been attracted to a couple in my travels. It was a case-by-case basis, it all depended on how they carried themselves and what they thought of themselves. I have also jettisoned oppurtunities to date people based on that, too. Low self-esteem is the ultimate deal-breaker for me, and I don't care if you look like Ava Gardner, if you don't love yourself, nobody else has much of a chance, either."...

IMHO, No matter the initial packaging, ultimately, true beauty comes from within. As many have experienced in one way or another, many a gift does not live up to the promise of the wrapping. Life is not lived in ribbons and bows and brightly-colored paper fades. Many a gift is broken, discarded or lost but a treasured few only get better with age.

On a related note... Bruce Willis 54, married his model girlfriend Emma Heming 30, at his home in the Caribbean, on Saturday

...and Harrison Ford 66, got engaged over Valentine's Day to longtime girlfriend Calista Flockhart 44.

Regardless the difference of age, i wish both couples the best!

Well, if we're going to take this approach, why not take it to its extreme and go with the biggest disaster in recent memory -

Aww, Hadley... but extremes can be fun!:p (Specifically, in watching others' reactions, as long as nobody's at risk of harm...)

That's true! :D Just give them a lil something to talk about, like the songs says! ;) :p

It's incest. Perhaps not from a biological standpoint, but I still think it's incest.

I think there may be problems inherent in a situation where the one person is a twice divorced adult and the bride is his 13 years old cousin.

I mean what do you give your wife for her Sweet Sixteen. [huh] very perplexing.:p

My wife and I are 23.5 years apart in age -- she's 27 and I'm 51 -- and we couldn't be happier. And lest anyone think I was out chasing young things, she did all the pursuing in our relationship. I felt all along that our age difference was just too great, but I've long since placed those thoughts aside.

I'm a lucky man indeed.

Here's one of my favorite pics of us -- she's being silly, and my face is cut off, as well it should be.

Skyvue, your wife is adorable! She looks like tons of fun!

Thanks! She is a lot of fun; we enjoy our lives together very much.

Here are three more photos of her -- the vintage sleeveless dress in the first one was my engagement present to her, and she loves it (she looks great it in it, too, I think). Her hair is Audrey Hepburn short now, and it looks good, though I still prefer it a bit longer.

But I didn't get a vote!

Love hearing a man enjoying being a father. Nothing better than that.

I wouldn't trade it for the world. Having two sons at my age (a Jack Benny 29 of course;) :p ) is exactly what I wanted. My wife is only 16 months younger than I am though. :p
How old you are is really just a number. I can hardly believe that I am my age when I think back to high school and college it feels just like yesterday but the decades have been creeping up. [huh] :eusa_doh: :p
