Papers released from the Great British national archieve show the Queen's courtiers turned up their noses at souvenir handkerchiefs commemorating her wedding, previously unseen documents have revealed.

But Buckingham Palace officials failed to prevent "tasteless" memorabilia marking her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947 going on sale.

I guess not everything from the 1940s tasteful?

I just bought a CD of early R&B that's fun but not in the best of taste.

The flag/handkerchief does look really kitschy. But I think that the royal family making that pronouncement at the time would have been in even poorer taste.

Amy jeanne, please

You can't just say that and not give us any titles. I've got to find them for myself so I can be put off by them.

Sincerely,
the Wolf

On the BBC website there was a closeup of the then-princess's face. And she does look odd. The artist for some reason has twisted her mouth into that absurd pout that has become fashionable again lately. Phil the Greek looks normal though.

One does not pout!

Personally i'm all in favour of making an ridiculous anachronism seem a little more foolish. Caricature away, O! ye artist(e)s of Jolly Ol' GBR . . .
