I just acquired vintage leather coat made by A.Mincieli NY. Very well made coat.
My question is: Anyone seen this type of coat before?
An ex-NYPD wrote see photo please, stating it is from early 80's! I thought this coat goes back to the 60's since the buttons are from that era.
Thanks for your help.

That's an interesting jacket, It looks like a NYPD Mounted/Highway jacket but they don't have pockets ( at least those authorized since the 1980's) and it appears the "pockets" are just openings for internal access.. If its legit ( which it looks ) its pre-1970-1960, any older than that they were probably wearing wool jackets/overcoats

I learned my phone number with letters and numbers in the late 60 early 70's

Thanks for the info. The pockets are real with thick canvas like fabric. The leather looks like horsehide, but not 100% sure. I ride a motorcycle and this coat is a cold wind beater. I have other jackets that are shorter. This coat covers my thighs which makes a big difference.

Great point. I noticed the phone number not conforming.
Thank you.
I tried to find any photos of PD wearing this type of long coat. There is a shorter version worn today by NYPD and NJPD. See photos

Is there a way to bypass the pockets and get your hands inside the jacket? looking at the photo of the interior, the slits stand out.

It looks the part, and for sure its a well made jacket and suitable for the cold on a MC.. I just don't think this was ever an "official" NYPD coat.

The Duty belt has always been worn on the outside of the jacket.. no pockets.

Great photos..Thanks.
The pocket does have a slit to access pats etc.
I just posted photos showing evidence of NYPD HP patch and a badge.
Which indicates the jacket was a service jacket!

Thanks for the mounted NYPD photos. Very nice.
I would say this coat was a service coat at one time.
See photos I posted.
It looks like it had a Highway Patrol patch ( wheel and arrow).

I think this coat dates back to 1950-1970?
The guy I purchased from found in California flea market!
Paid $350. 9 lbs.

Yes, I have seen this jacket. Same maker. You are correct 70's to 80's
I noticed lapels has different style.
Jacket on lady NYPD looks horsehide. Not sure if my jacket and one you posted are?

Thanks..
I love the classic leather look.
I noticed many PD are going with synthetic material for obvious reasons.
I recently was in Dallas, TX I noticed their mounted PD had short
dallas mm (002).jpg
leather jackets.
