I had a friend who was a serious art collector (an attic full of Alexander Calder toys, an original Paul Klee, a stack of Joseph Cornell boxes, among other things), whose father was a big shot industrial tycoon. For his eightieth birthday the family commissioned a portrait of him by Rockwell. (Yeah, they had that kind of money.)
Anyway, she said afterward that after watching his whole process, her respect for him as a painter, not merely an "illustrator" went way up.
If you ever get a chance to visit Stockbridge, Mass., do so. It's where he lived most of his working life, and the whole town is kind of a museum to him.

I've seen some of these before, but they're always cool to see again. I love the little details Rockwell adds to his work. He is absolutely my favorite artist.

Thanks for sharing!

+1 for Stockbridge.

Please excuse the large size, but this particular piece is featured in Stockbridge. The detail in the woman's hands is absolutely exquisite.
