I'm heading to NY in a few weeks for a holiday and was wondering if there are any recommendations for jacket related places to go, stockist of the high end brands, maybe some great vintage shops that have decent stock of leather jackets etc.

Any ideas?

Find you something that Lost Worlds has in stock or on their discount page and then pick it up when you in the city. Will save you a ton in shipping and fees getting it back to Oz.

Blue in Green (SoHo) is now part of The Real McCoy's Store!
If you're just looking, RRL (3 stores downtown- Flagship store on West Broadway) have beautiful but pricey vintage jackets.

I would be very keen to do the Schott Bros factory tour. It's not Aero, but it's pretty iconic, and I think it would be fascinating. Is the there a Self edge shop there? You might find some funky denim houses over there worth looking at too.
I'm also envious as hell!

Besides the jackets, if you have the time and it's hot in the city take the Staten Island ferry round-trip from the southern tip of Manhattan. You get a nice sea-breeze, a beautiful view of the city and the harbor, and it costs next to nothing. Hope you have a good time.

3 weeks! Go explore Brooklyn for sure!
And there is a place called The Lobster that makes a Lobster Club Roll- a lobster Roll sandwich with bacon and avocado..... The Best!
Great handmade leather bags are at The Village Tannery on Bleeker.

Take another 3 weeks and hit the other coast. Oregon,LA and San Fran. Do that and you have Langlitz,Johnson Leathers, Thurston Bros, Wesco,Whites,Dehen,Goodart, Gustin etc etc etc Hit Portland and San Fran and see where the original hipsters germinated.....

Check out Church Street Surplus (Church & Canal street in Chinatown). Racks and racks of vintage clothing, old denim, military surplus, as well as other odds and sods.

Also, there's a new Filson retail store downtown (40 Great Jones street) that's worth a look.

Hey.... if it's just for pleasure... give a nudge... there are a few of us "hide hounds" within decent driving distance. If you've got time you should hit Niagara Falls, in upstate NY. I took my friends from Perth there and they were awestruck!

Most importantly: Peter Luger

+1, bacon followed by the steak for X number of people. Not to be missed, I'm an avid steakhouse fan, and Luger's is as good as it gets. Nothing fancy, just some of the best beef in the world, perfectly prepared.

When you are downtown, stop into another institution for a few pints, McSorley's. A great history of NYC is hanging on their walls with all of their memorabilia from the last 160 years or so. (They haven't removed anything from the walls since 1910) Their grizzled bartenders have some great stories to tell if you engage them. Note, each beer order comes as two 12 ounce pours.

Yes, its just a holiday and visiting friends, no work involved.
Niagara is already on the list

I'm really appreciating these other suggestions as well, if there is anything off the tourist map and a little unknown, I wold love to hear about them as well...Peter Lugers sounds great, thats now on the list ;)

I don't know how young or old you are... I'd a said CBGB's but it's gone. The Apollo Theatre in Harlem's still there. S.O.B's... "Sounds of Brazil" if you want some afro-beat. MOMA "Museum of Modern Art" is cool if you like that sort of thing. Yankee Stadium or better yet Citi Field see a major league ball game. The Yanks are a better team but your OZ dollar will go further at Citi PLUS you can see the site of 1964 Worlds Fair... see "Men in Black" for a reference. Downtown Brooklyn for the hipster in ya. As suggested, take the Circle Line and do all that other touristy stuff. If you're driving, which I doubt cause when I drove in Perth the wrong side thing almost got me killed, to the Falls and coming through Albany, let me know I'll take you'se all out for dinner. Just doin' my bit for "international relations".

And don't forget the crackers, onions, cheese, and mustard!

I think everyone had hit on the jacket spots. For sites, I would suggest walking by the Hotel Chelsea followed by the NYC High Line. A drink at the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central seems like a nice fit for this forum.
