New RMC Buco leather (asking for a friend)

Thought I’d ask a question, this time on behalf of a colleague at work. He’s just received a RMC Buco.

It sounds as though the jacket fits well, but there’s evident wear on one of the cuffs directly out of the box. Sounds like the remainder of the jacket is great, but wanted to know if this is a concern or normal for a brand new RMC. Received from Standard and Strange.

These jackets do teacore, but that should not be normal for a brand new one. It's probably due to the cuff rubbing against something while it was handled or transported.

Why don't you tell your friend to shoot them an email with that picture and ask for an exchange?

If it genuinely fits well and you want this jacket, ask for a partial refund to account for the premature fadeing.

You would get this fading anyway, sooner or later. Lightly touch up the edges with black Pecard's if you'd like. (It's a tint rather than a dye so you won't have a two tone of blocks happening.)

If it fits well and is comfortable and your friend is otherwise stoked I'd not necessarily return it - it will start to do that very very soon once he starts wearing it. Maybe shoot S&S an email and see what they can do if you're that way disposed.

I think that would be the ideal outcome.

The jacket is clearly damaged; yes, that sort of scuffing will happen eventually, but depending on the wearers actual use. For a new USD 3.000 jacket, this is not acceptable.

However, personally, I would be happy with a reasonable partial refund, and so should S&S be.

Yes if S&S doesn’t budge, it should be returned or exchanged. (They have a bad history with this like when a set of Shinki Lofgren boots arrived in the wrong colour and the only concession they gave the customers who preordered is the opportunity to cancel).

Schott sells jackets with scuffs like this at over 60% off in their factory sale so full price would be unfair to OP.

Always a tense moment when you open a package from overseas and just paid 19% VAT and 3% customs on top of the price. The last thing you want to see is a damaged products, or something not according to spec.

S&S can pretty much decide if they want to offer a discount and live happy ever after or are faced witrh a return that they can´t seriously sell as new again. A good oppurtunity to show a customer-focus mindset.

I would stay clear of that hide, period. The wear looks fake and will continue to look fake. The topcoat is engineered to have poor adhesion, and will be coming off at stress points in unsightly fashion.

Probably just from being tried on in the store. I’d keep it. If you get a new one it will look like that in 2 months anyhow. If it bugs you i’m sure they would exchange. I’ve dealt with them in that regard before and they were very good. As far as discount i suspect highly unlikely. Anyhow, regarding rmc leather i’m 2/2 with zipper failureso if youthink you’re disappointed now…..

One of my favourite S&S stories involves something like this. A friend in Europe ordered a number of things from their sale; he emailed them to make sure the stated purchase prices on the tax documents were what he paid, not the full price (which was out of his budget anyway). They affirmed that they'd do this.

A week later he gets a parcel with a massive customs and VAT bill because , to maintain their 'prestige' or something, they listed every item at full retail price, so had to pay VAT on that. He emailed them about this and they didn't care.

I would Call Standard & Strange - and also email them photos.

See if it can be worked out over the phone, Usually a phone receptionist will also have a direct email you could sent the photos over to.

If they do not like this mark, as others have indicated, this just may not be the jacket for them (or for me).

Pretty much saw the same a month ago for RMC J24 at Rivet and Hide in London. Guess this is due to people trying on and as some others mentioned the cuff rubbing the wall or customers or other things. I guess S&S have this disclaimer that the leather might have already signs of aging. But as others advised it’s worth to ask what they can do in terms of return/refund/store credit.

I have a very different experience with them when no matter the volume of order I would pay still the same amount (around chf 40) which was significantly less than what should have been paid as per local customs duties and taxes calculation. They were always helpful with customs.

Actually it is spelled out thoroughly on their website:
https://standardandstrange.com/pages/customer-care-2#returns

And this may be the key part -

FAULTY ITEM / INCORRECT ITEM

If you feel the item you have received is faulty or incorrect, please email us at hello@standardandstrange.com or use our contact form and we will handle your case individually. Please do not open a chargeback or dispute, or else we will not be able to assist you.
