New member intro and two Levi’s jackets

Hi all,

New member here from San Francisco, CA. I grew up in the punk / oi! / hardcore scene since the early 00s so my love of leather jackets, denim, and boots have always been a mainstay. I’ve gravitated towards the more “classic” Americana style within the last 5 years or so. Just wanted to share two of my favorite jackets-

1. Levi’s type 3 leather jacket. Short horn “western wear” in a size small. Fits perfectly

2. Levi’s type 2 denim jacket. Made in Japan, 1990s. I added a leather patch to the front.

BTW, I wouldn’t have guessed there was still a punk scene at that time in SF.
My wife grew up in the Berlin punk scene in the late 1980s and boy what stories she can tell.

Thank you for the welcome. Love both jackets a lot. I have been wearing both in rotation for the past year almost nonstop! Here is a pic of myself at a museum in front of some carnivorous plants (I am also the current the president of the Bay Area carnivorous plant society haha, and work with wildlife as a profession). Also a random pic, ha.

That’s awesome! Im sure the stories are amazing, ha! 80s punk is def my favorite era.
There actually seems to have been a huge resurgence of punk (mostly hardcore and oi) here in SF within the last 5 or so years. Pretty interesting to see and hear the new bands.
I used to be in a few bands when I was younger and put out records and toured, etc. Nice to see the things are still going

Gotta love the Avengers, classic SF punk. As a teen, I really liked the quintessential SF/Bay Area hardcore bands like Crucifix, Social Unrest, etc.

Oh, I get it.

I was thinking more of the 80s/90s punk lifestyle of fighting capitalism, appropriating abandoned buildings, attacking the norm and generally being a prime menace to society.
Music was part of that culture but not the only connector. Notably, my wife used to work as a doorwoman at the SO36 club in Berlin as part of the de-escalation strategy in the face of often unhinged visitors. Compared to that, I have always been kind of a Joghurt.

I'm in an extremely irreverent Facebook private group that was started by James Wilsey, the Avengers bassist, most of the members are musicians who cut their teeth in that scene, one I had little knowledge about before joining the group. I'm a contemporary of theirs, had similar experiences as a teenager in Montreal, though we looked more to the UK than San Fran at the time. Wilsey died tragically a few years ago, after long and evidently fruitless battles with substance abuse.

It really does! I’m glad I took my time and search thoroughly/ waited for the right jacket. It came from England via eBay at around $320 USD shipped. Can’t complain about the price!

that sounds like wild times indeed. While i knew a few people that ended up on that side of the political spectrum, i was definitely (and still am) was more on the music side of things.

Shame about Wilsey; I recall hearing about that a few years ago from someone associated to the now out of print Maximum Rock and Roll magazine (used to hang out at that house occasionally when I was younger). I too grew up more into the UK sound.
Never made it to Montreal, but I’ve played show in Vancouver and Toronto years back. Cool areas
