Likewise.

I do like the idea of a Joker that is, like the new Batman, a "normal guy" with his own twist (of pure evil) as opposed to a "cartoony", though just as evil, Joker.

That looks suitably creepy. I prefer the Joker to actually be scarred instead of merely wearing facepaint, but I'm willing to see what they can do with the material.

Have you seen the full face photos? He has a smile scarred on his cheeks, as if someone stiched up the Dahlia's wounds.

Hmmnn..... have to admit I'm a sucker for the classic Joker look and prefer soemthing more stylised.... that said, I think this will work really well in the context of the "realistic" approach taken in the new films, so. Looking forward to it.

The classic Joker is a thing of beauty but, as you say, the tone of the new films lends itself more to the realistic edge that this new look has.

Of course there's also that same old question following any interpretation of the role: just how are you supposed to top Jack Nicholson? Not trying seems to be the best answer to that one as far as I'm concerned.

They recently changed the story of the Joker's mouth in the Batman Confidential comics, and that will probably match the film's story, given DC's track record on these recent films. It's something incredibly lame like his mouth got scarred when Batman threw a batarang at him.

Thats right, ya just cant! No matter what the rule. When they redid The Shining to actually go more to Stephen Kings book, Stephen Weber did a good job redoing it, but he can't top Jack. (specially in a mini serie)

Of course Jack Nicholson, and everything in the Tim Burton films, wasn't really what they were *supposed* to be like. They were more, "What if Tim Burton had invented Batman" than anything else!

The most widely cited backstory can be seen in The Killing Joke. It depicts him as originally being an engineer at a chemical plant who quits his job to become a stand-up comedian, only to fail miserably. Desperate to support his pregnant wife, the man agrees to help two criminals break into the plant where he was formerly employed. In this version of the story, the Red Hood persona is given to the inside man of every job (thus it is never the same man twice); this makes the man appear to be the ringleader, allowing the two criminals to escape. During the planning, police contact him and inform him that his wife has died in a household accident.

Stricken with grief, he attempts to back out of the plan, but the criminals strong-arm him into keeping his promise. As soon as they enter the plant, however, they are immediately caught by security and a shoot-out ensues, in which the two criminals are killed. As the engineer tries to escape, he is confronted by Batman, who is investigating the disturbance. Terrified, the engineer leaps over a rail and plummets into a vat of chemicals. When he surfaces in the nearby reservoir, he removes the hood and sees his reflection: bleached chalk-white skin, ruby-red lips, and green hair. These events, coupled with his other misfortunes that day, drive the engineer completely insane, resulting in the birth of the Joker.
