I have just received my custom hat made by Art Fawcett, and I have to tell you that this is one of the finest hats made today. I compared it to several in my vintage collection, and to some made by a fine hatter in Chicago. This hat, made by Art Fawcett, is absolutely beautiful.

It is the "Manhattan", one of his limited editions. It is a silvery/dove gray, with matching binding on the edge. The crown is 4 3/4 inches from the brim to the bottom of the "V" in the front pinch. The brim measures just a bit over 2 5/8, and the crown ribbon is a very pleasing and vintage 2 inches. The workmanship is flawless. The sewn edge on the brim edge is better than on my hats from Chicago. The interior lining is satin white, with a classy black circle at the top, and the wonderful "plastic protector" is sewn in. Under the plastic, is Art's signature. The sweatband is the brown you find only on vintage hats. It is extremely well fitted, and of the best quality. Of course, my initials are punched into the sweat, in perfect alignment.

The hat arrived in a sturdy shipping box, and I was suprised to find a black oval hatbox with the Vintage Sillhouettes logo embossed on top. Not a sitcker, but actually produced in the manufacture of the box.

The hat also came with a "certificate of authenticity", and a "put it back" card in the sweat.

Overall, this is probably my last hat. I have been buying hats on ebay, from a well known Chicago hatter, and of course my vintage. This hat, is exactly what my quest was serching for, the "Holy Grail" of hats. I can without any reservations, recommend this hat. Oh, and the price was well below half price of the Chicago hatter. And about double the price of the "off the shelf" modern Stetson or Biltmore hat. You cannot get a better bargain. Here are some pictures I took today out in the front yard. I am delighted! :eusa_clap

I'm jealous! I've been eyeing Art's hats for a while now, but just can't afford one on my student-loan, subsistence-level budget.

Any pics of it on your head forthcoming?

I am very partial to the bound brim. I truly love the color. Worth waiting for! It's always a pleasure to talk with Art. Congratulations, wear in good health.

You're killing me here. I've just begun the process with Art for my first fedora...mind you, not first custom fedora, but first fedora at all, and the suspense is killing me.

After a lot of research on this site and one mildly failed experiment buying vintage on eBay I decided that getting what I wanted from the get go was the way for me.

I had also heard and seen so much of Art's work that I knew he was the way to go and I'm thrilled everytime I hear from his happy customers. Andykev, I know you know you're stuff, so hearing you sing his praises and seeing the "extra" that Art delivers really confirms my decision.

Wear this new one in good health, I can't wait to wear mine.

Yep, it's all there. The proportion of the hat band,
the sculpting of the bow, the finishing of the brim.

I can only hope to see it floating down the street
in front of me, here in the East Bay some day.
