New details on Glenn Miller's disappearance

There's a new piece of information regarding the mysterious disappearance in Dec. of 1944 of the great band leader Glenn Miller.
There have been stories that a man in a British bomber observed a smaller plane being hit by a jettisoned bomb and plunging into the English Channel. The plane, if Miller's, would have been badly off course, and would have wandered into the area designated for bombers to jettison unused bombs after aborted bombing missions. (Noone ever landed with unexploded bombs, too dangerous.)
This new story indicates that Miller's plane was spotted exactly ON course at the correct time for its flight plan, thus discounting the other story.
This sort of increases the mystery, but also makes me suspect that the most likely explanation now is engine failure, and the pilot being unable to radio his position.

Glenn was riding in a Noorduyn C-64 Norseman.
These were Canadian bush planes, meant for floats and hopping the coastlines and lakeshores.
If your engine went out over the briny with dry-land gear, why, it was good night sweetheart, as we say in the band biz.

Coincidentally, I've done a fair bit of work at the airfield in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire that he left from on that last trip. It's home to a satellite dish station now, and an amateur racetrack. There's a few photos and some small mention of the event there. One of the local pubs has a bit of stuff too.

A US team is investigating if a plane carrying band leader Glenn Miller might have crashed off the Dorset coast. The UC-64A Norseman disappeared over the English Channel in 1944 in one of World War Two's most enduring mysteries.

The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) is following up a claim from a fisherman who said he snagged a plane in his nets in 1987.

The aircraft and its three occupants have never been found.

TIGHAR said it remains a "possibility" it was Miller's plane.

An area off Portland Bill could be where the wreckage of the aircraft of Glenn Miller is located, US investigators have said.

No word on whether Amelia was aboard at the time.
