New Aero designs (pic heavy)

Was down at Aero today, the other half picking the buttons and buckle for her jacket, and got a chance to see the new designs ahead of them going on sale - I think they go up later this month - and I took a few photos. A few of them are a new 'British' line, so for those across the pond they zip up the 'wrong way', and a few designs for ladies. Anyhoo, here's some pics of the samples (apologies for quality of photos):

Some great designs, nice to see something especially for the ladies.
Love the Leytonstone Highwayman, looks spot on to the original I wore many many years back.
For those interested, the original Rivetts shop closed a few years back. Leytonstone High Road, once the heartbeat of motorcycling in the East End of London, declining ever since the death of the British bike industry during the 1970s, supposedly to be regenerated during the Olympics and forever after. It's still a dump!

There was an original there, and it's the spitting image of it. Loved the Board Track Racer - the pics don't do it justice, the back is designed to follow the curve of your spine.

Seriously though, that first woman's jacket looks good, would be nice to see it without the belt, might look nicer without it or doubled round the back.

Thanks for pics. Liking the look of the Plainsman in Badalassi, have you got a picture showing the back by any chance?

Argh, afraid not on the Kanga or the Badalassi. Ken and co were mad keen busy so I didn't want to get under their feet, so I just took a handful of snaps. The kangaroo is really nice though, it's a shade lighter than the picture shows, with a nice shading across it.

Otter, if I remember, the jacket comes without loops, so it can be worn both ways without it looking as if it's missing.

Cooperson, the back of the jacket is the same as the LHB. The Badalassi is, as far as I'm aware, a one off test - gorgeous colour, but it's an absolute monster when it comes to working with it, so I don't think they're going to persist.

Anymore details on the Plainsman? I emailed Holly earlier this week asking about adding length to a 30's slim half belt and she suggested I wait 2 weeks as they would be releasing the new styles including a log half belt..I'm assuming this is it?

+1 to coopersons request of pic or further info re its back. If you don't have a pic do you remember if it has a yoke or bi swing?

Craig those pics are very interesting. I'll be interested in seeing which hides are available for the Plainsman. Is it based on a 30's or 50's design.

Yeah, it's essentially an LHB without the cargo pockets - it's a 30s/40s neat fit. I think they will be doing it in the usual array of hides, but there was one Plainsman there in vintage cardovan which was fantastic - sadly the pic I had of it was so shaky that it looked like modern art! :eeek:

Thanks Sloan. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to have a Rivett Highwayman, in brown. I just need to know what tartan would look good with the brown. Would a wind flap work with that particular jacket style?

Don't see why not, though obviously you'd need to speak to Aero on that issue. The hide is really interesting - it's similar to Connolly leather in finish. The buckled straps on the Rivetts HWM are a boon as well. It's a very different beast from the standard one (it's cow for a start) The Board Track jacket's windflap is a really nice detail - it has a tartan inset but it's going to have a rayon lining I think.

Craig, what about the Badalassi? Exactly what is the Badalassi hide shown in the Plainsman and why is it impossible with which to machine? Looks interesting. The battered brown looks like it was dragged behind a P/U truck for a few miles. :eeek:

Rudie, the Maine is a mid-weight leather - most of the new designs are mid-weight. The jacket pictured is a modified half-belt belonging to Ken - it has an amazing blanket lining.
Mr F, the Badalassi is a really thick, heavy leather which makes it very hard to work with, so I think Ken just felt (and I'm really paraphrasing here) that it was more trouble than it was worth (though of course there is that one sample...) - given that the super heavy steer isn't available anymore, it's not that surprising.

Didn't realize the sample was super heavy steer. Even worse than trying to work with it would be wearing it and breaking it in. :eeek: I've about decided FQHH is about as much as I want to break in ... ever.

No, it's not the super heavy steer that Aero used to use for the Hippy Jacket, but it's similar in its weight. It is a lovely butterscotch colour, but the jacket would be hella hard to break in. I'm with you on the FQHH, it's a big enough task. The Board Racer is a really nice mid-weight horse as well, and the woman's jacket, which is a beautiful bit of design, is a nice goat. I would commend the kangaroo to you, it's got real character but won't break your back - it's what I'd hoped kudu was, if that makes sense.
