Have you any local thrift stores or antique shops?
I picked up a watch last, sounds like the kinda thing you were looking for about 1" by 3/4" rectangle, no date, no sweeping second hand, so quite formal in that respect. Leather band and mechanical. I picked it up for £6 which is about $8.60. Works quite nicely.
