Didn't want to muck up the forums with this but I'd appreciate if anyone could send me a Black Steerhide sample of suitable length so I could make a pull tab for a recent Vanson acquisition. Willing to PayPal the price of shipping.

Hello. I have to see our local shoe cobbler this upcoming Wednesday to pick up a pair of my Husband's shoes. He does all sorts of leather repair and should have some tid bit odds and ends of leather just floating around. How big a piece of leather do you desire, give me some size preference and I am sure I can pick it up for you for free. It should not cost but a dollar or so to send, so I will just do it as an early Christmas gift for you. To use Pay Pal is not needed. Let me know and I can even call tomorrow and tell you what he has around.

Thanks loads Cindy, I appreciate your quick response. A swatch 2 and a half to three inches should do fine. I just need to cut a narrow enough but long enough strip to make a pull. You never know how much you need them till you try to zip a jacket with gloves on!!! Much appreciated.

Hello. I actually made a call to our Cobbler today and he has more than enough spare odds and ends, I will be able to get more than one piece more than likely, I will be able to place what I get in an envelope and send it to you without any problem. I enjoy being able to help a fellow lounger out!

I was able to strike gold for you! Today I had to take my Husband to the Doctor's and made a few stops, ran into the cobbler and he gave me some really great leather for you. I think it may be Italian Calf skin, it is really nice, I explained what you wanted some leather for, and he immediately gave me this chunk, and said this is what you would want to use. Now he also said, you can make a slot on both sides, bring the leather around and use the slots to attach the leather to itself (figure the amount of length you would want first). He also suggested you can glue the leather flat together AFTER you put it through your zipper tab, and then sew before the glue would dry. Basically what you would be making is like a leather fob to pull your zipper tab with. The glue would have to be a contact cement like Barge. If you use that, do not do anything with what you made for at least 18 hours and let the stuff really dry and cure. There is enough leather for you to make more than one in case you need to "start over" as the chunk of leather covers about half my keyboard! LOL I trust this was a good size, as if it were me making it, I would already expect to have to make more than one to just get it right!

This is going to you in the mail tomorrow, and really, consider it a welcomed gift as we here LOVE to do things like this for our fellow loungers!

Thank you so much for your kindness. This is why (despite the occaisional feud) I come here everyday. For you to take time out from your day to do this for someone who's practically a stranger speaks volumes about you and this place. Please thank your cobbler friend for me immensely. I also learned a new way to do leather pulls and why they glue and stitch them together. Nice to get extra knowledge!!!!

I can get all the tid bits of leather like this for no cost, and again, it actually is a great feeling to know I can do something as simple as this with so much joy in doing so, for you! It is great that the leather worked out for you. My Husband lived in "Up State" New York for some time, (I think he has lived about everywhere other than China) LOL! So if we ever do get things together and are able to travel soon, we may take you up on the drinks....
