Need Help with Pacific Bomber History

I am researching history of a deceased WWII Pilot. I am unable to find his service records.
I need the help and deductive reasoning of some hardcore history buffs on this one.

The man enlisted in 1941 and was a pilot in the Aleutians. He completed his tour and became a flight instructor in Tonopah Navada. He died in a B-24 crash at the Tonopah airfield in August 1944.

Can I assume that since he was a flight instructor and died in a B-24 in Tonopah, that he probably flew B-24s while in the Aleutians?

If so, which airforce would have flown B-24s in the Aleutians?
Is there a way to discover which Bomb Group he belonged to?
Any ideas how I can narrow the search down a bit?
