Need Help on Hat Store

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker and I post every now and again. I'm in Southern Arizona training for the Minn National Guard (I go to Iraq in April), and I was wondering if there is a good hat store in Tucson?

I'm thinking of buying a Fedora (of course). I have a really cool straw Stetson that I bought at Heimie's Haberdashery in St. Paul. I don't have it with me so I'm feeling rather lonely for a nice hat (one that isn't made of kevlar or a beret).:eusa_doh:

I have a four day weekend this weekend and one for Thanksgiving. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

While we are waiting for someone who knows something, let me throw this out. Since finding stores that do fedoras is getting harder and harder, you might try looking for a good western hatter and ask if he can do you a fedora. We have a couple of posts on guys getting a good looking fedora from a western hat maker. See if we still have the sticky thread on making a hat. I believe the individual in that thread is generally western and look at the good looking fedora he made. Good luck and good luck on your deployment.

I was in Tucson a couple years back on vacation. Enjoyed it but didn't see any hatters. I didn't make a real concerted effort but I'd be surprised if there was one to be found there. It's not a real cosmopolitan, dress-up sort of region, in my opinion. It's more about trail riding, hiking, skiing on Mt. Lemon, outdoorsy nature stuff with that southwest vibe, which I took good advantage of.

Searching/ordering from an online retailer or investing in a custom from Art Fawcett or Mike Moore are probably your best bets.

Also, visit all the thrift stores and antique boutiques you can get to in the area. You'd be surprised at what you can sometimes find in those places.

He turns out a super fedora in addition to some really great looking western hats.

I agree with Carter try Optimo Hatworks in Bisbee. It is approximately an hour and half if you are driving from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. It is about 82 miles from Tucson plus it is a neat little town to explore. You might want to stop by and see the Copper Queen Hotel which was built at the turn of the century.

Hats are like potato chips, You just can't have one.
