So I wandered into Katoomba this morning and dropped into the Hattery for a Macchiato and a baked cheese cake. Even though we are in the middle of winter and I am loving my new Silverbelly Campdraft, I am traveling to Queensland in the next few months and will need to something light and cool to wear. Being a mountains man through and through and more at home in the cold than the sweltering heat, I doubt my collection of felts will get a lot of wear up there.
So I figured I would get myself a straw fedora. I didn't like the local offerings from Akubra. The poly just seems as stiff as a cardboard box and quite plastic. They look great, but I wasnt rapped in the feel of them.
Jen at the Hattery suggested this hand woven Ecuador panama in the fedora style. Its as light as a feather and very soft.
Im sure that these are as common as muck over there in the states, but a really nice example like this is relatively hard to find and expensive over here, so I am happy to have found it.
Im set for summer!
