My Favorite Cocktail as of Late

A voice from the past brings you a new cocktail. The veterans of this joint know I mostly stick to Manhattan variants. Being that the recipe has no sweet vermouth is a rare exception for my normal M.O. Nevertheless I consider this an earthy type of Manhattan. It's been my default go to for over a year...if I can find it. The ingredients are not common. Enough chatter. I give you.....

The Moose & Squirrel cocktail
2 oz James Pepper 1776 Rye
.5 oz Combie Fambroise
.5 oz Nocino Walnut liquor (no other will do)
3 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir, surved up.

Enjoy!

Discovered on a trip to Dublin and now my favorite go to drink.

When it's actually Cocktail Hour I usually make a Last Word.
3⁄4 oz Gin
3⁄4 oz Green Chartreuse
3⁄4 oz Maraschino liqueur (usually Luxardo's - LobeyDosser).
3⁄4 oz Fresh lime juice
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake.
Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass.

The Last Word was one of the first pre-Prohibition drinks to lead the cocktail revival of the early aughts. Murray Stenson of Seattle’s Zig Zag unearthed the equal-parts classic—gin, maraschino liqueur, Chartreuse and lime juice—in Ted Saucier’s 1962 book, “Bottoms Up.” Before long, the Last Word was a staple in cocktail bars across the country, revered for its heady balance of sweet, sour and herbal flavors. Just waiting for the weather to turn a bit colder and, then, it's time for some Irish Coffees, which in my middle-aged lighter-drinking years has become one of my favorite fall/winter cocktails.
