Anyone know of any "hat places of interest" in or near Shakopee, MN? Taking a day trip up there this weekend with my wife.

If you are willing to head northeast another 40 minutes or so it would be worthwhile to visit Heimies Haberdasherry in downtown St. Paul. A throwback to the 'Golden Age'. Meritage, one of our favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities, is right next door. Both establishments are in the historic Hamm Building.

There are also quite a few vintage clothing shops in Minneapolis and St. Paul which occasionally will have some interesting lids on offer.

Have a great trip!

I second that! When you go, don't shave the day before you arrive and treat yourself to a very nice old-fashioned straight razor shave. Best one I ever had was there in 2008.

I once attended a business dinner at Meritage -- excellent food. I noticed Heimies there at the time but, alas, it was closed, and I have not had occasion to return since.

Well, by the time I finished work, got up to Shakopee, and my wife's appointment finished, we only had enough time to zoom up to Minneapolis for dinner, and as the wifey gets the last word in dining, we ended up at Bryant Lake Bowl before hitting the road again. Neat little place, but I'll have to file all of your great suggestions for food, hat shopping, and a shave for another time!

delectans, just sent you a PM.

Had to do some business in Rochester, MN, today, and had time to pop into an antique store there for about two minutes. I didn't purchase anything, but did see an interesting old 7 1/4 Stetson western in a glass case, sporting a band of undated nickels on leather. Was this common hatband decor at some point?
