I believe we, who enjoy the conviviality of these hallowed halls, sometimes forget that outside here, the Web world is a not-so-friendly place.
I am constantly appalled at the poor manners and low spirit you see at other sites.
Praise be for a shelter from that storm, and this is it.

Well, no. No further questions at this time. Now I know everything, thank you.
While having the members list disabled does not cause me much distress, there have been a number of times where it could have been useful. Also having it disabled does not stop anyone or bot for that matter from accessing the information of the members if they are determined. However I do appreciate the effort taken to protect the members and keep this a comfortable place for all of us.
Dependent on what options are part of the Admin CP you could possibly enable the list for members while disabling it for non members.

I don't want to belabor this point and ... quite frankly, we do tend to be a little gabby, verging on verbose .... but I agree with Mario ... that's part of the reason we joined this board.
However, to return to my earlier comment, we all need to recognize that this site is an island of civility in an increasingly strident public community out there.
I don't care to see any membership list ... I am impressed with the people who set this site up and who maintain it ... at no cost to me ...
But I do appreciate the tone that has been set here, which is, to use a rather outdated term, "gentlemanly."
I thank the members and the organizers for what we have here.
Many years ago I enjoyed smoking pipes and I lived in a college town. One of the best places was the rarified atmospher of the college town pipe shop, where we could gather after work, try a new blend and chat ... yes, we chatted.
Nothing serious. No politics. Just social chatter.
It was wonderful.
Only rarely would anyone dare to break the rules and when they did, the proprietor would gently explain that this was a tobacconist, one of the few remaining ports in the storm of borish behavior that has over taken our society.
I am grateful, now that I no longer smoke and no longer have access to a pipe shop, that we have a place where we can chat, gab, and communicate with good manners.
