Mallory the Magnificent!!

Okay I know I said I wasn't going to look for anymore hats, but what if you just happen to run into one you can't resist? I went to an antique show this weekend in Portland, one of the largest in the Northwest and saw this Mallory in it's original box. It looks like it was never worn, not a stain or nibble and the liner and sweatband are totally pristine. The dimensions are huge, it has a 6 inch crown with a 2 7/8ths brim with a Cavanagh edge. The color is pretty accurate in the photo's. Its a very light gray with just a tinge of blue. It was so gorgeous I just could NOT pass it up. Even though it was a larger size than I wear (its a 7 1/2) I used the foam under the sweat to make it fit. I really wasn't in the market for another hat but this is one pretty hat.

And yes, it is one pretty hat. If it were mine, I'd be reluctant to wear it, out of fear I'd be looking for my reflection in every mirror and store window. People might think I was being a bit self-absorbed, when in fact it would be all about the hat.

Man-o-Man that is a great hat. It goes to show there is always room for another beauty. Just think about how many more wonderful hats there are in some small town or shop waiting to be found at the right time by the right person. If I could only clone myself. Oops, my apologies gents, I thought most people knew about the Portland Expo Antique show. It is the largest show on the west coast. It took us 7 hours of walking fast to make it through all the show. They have one at around this time every summer.

There were several nice hats at the show, I was going to pass on this one but when my wife bought a bunch of stuff she didn't really need, she told me to buy the hat as compensation.

One thing I fogot to mention is that the person who sold it to me was a woman named Sharon Waterbury and she new Art. What a small world. So Art if you are reading this thread, Sharon says to tell you hi.

Like I said the hat came with it's original Mallory hat box, it is in excellant condition as well, even has the leather strap across the top. Got the box and the hat for $60.00.

What a great hat!! The dimensions and edge would have sold me as well. I have never seen a hat with those dimensions, that also featured the Cavanagh Edge. Glad you got it Fedoralover. Could not have found a better home, and you have always made a hat look good. Fedora
