Has anyone purchase the Mangoli Clothiers 3 piece Princeton suite (or any of their wool tweed suits)?

Also, does anyone have an opinion/information on the pros/cons on the wool blend versus the full wool option that they offer,

I have purchased a Mangoli three piece of linen and silk. It fits flawlessly, and the taloring detail is perfection. I don't think you need worry about anything.

I bought a Casino Royale suit from him. I was very happy with it. Much nicer than the suits that you can have custom made around here....of course Magnoli was much more expensive than I could get locally. But the quality was great and he always answered his emails promptly. The measurements will make or break the suit so have someone competent take you measurements. I'm contemplating a linen suit, as well, for the hot/humid summer that is getting ready to start.

Last year, I purchased five suits from him, including a single breasted, peaked lapel, dark blue tweed suit. The fabric has a silk-like hand to it and it fits beautifully. I wore it to work here at the bank on a wintry day in December and got some compliments on it.

He's still kicking. We have some Sherlock Holmes costume items in the works, at the moment. Fun stuff.

I can send you an actual picture but I am ashamed to admit I don't have the tech to post one here. The blue is lighter than navy but not 'royal' blue.
The tweed texture makes for a nice, more casual look. I will try to see if I can find the sample jpg Indy sent me of the sample.

I would urge caution with whom you have your measurements taken. I ordered a formal shirt from Magnoli, and thinking a "pro" would do a better job than I, I had a tailor take my measurements, but the measurements were really off and as a result, the fit I got was less than stellar (actually horrible). The next time I ordered custom made shirts, I took all my own measurements, and the fit turned out top be perfect.

Thick As Thieves (another company that does M2M garments over the internet) has a very informative page about getting measured/self-measuring which includes instructional videos. The following is taken from the FAQ setion of their website:

* Due to the wildly inaccurate measurements we receive from those who went to a professional tailor, we feel you can do a very accurate self measurement yourself with a tape measure and a friend.

* Make sure all measurements are taken snug, not tight, and definitely not loose. The fewer articles of clothing you measure over, the better.

* We recommend taking multiple sets of measurements just to make sure you are getting the same results each time.

* If you do go to a tailor’s to get measured, we still recommend doing a set yourself and comparing the two. It’s amazing how different a tailor’s measure and your own self measure can result. And most of the time your measurement is actually the accurate one.

* Why are tailors’ measurements so often inaccurate? Many pad the measurement since they are probably used to a looser fit being “correct”. Sometimes they give you an interpreted measurement, meaning rather than the raw measure off the body, they give you the size that the garment should have. If you do go to a tailor, make sure he is giving you raw measurements off the body, done snugly.

I had a similar experience to Guttersnipe, which was compounded by the fact that I have unusual proportions. That made it difficult for Magnoli to figure out why things went wrong with my 3-pc. suit. It wasn't his fault. So, be sure you trust the measurements you provide.

As for the things that Magnoli can actually be blamed for... there's nothing bad to say! The quality is great. I actually had the Princeton made as a lighter weight wool blend, sorted of worsted finish, rather than tweed.

My BEST advice for getting the right fit would be to send him a jacket that fits you as you want his to (or with easy modifications). That's what I intend to do if (hopefully when) I order again.

Not that I need to (Mrs Foster's always complaining of so many things I do that I don't need to) but I second or third the measurement caution. I did my own-not hard to do because Magnoli explains exactly where and how to measure. But the fit is really a pleasant surprise if you provide the correct measurements.

Am taking all the above for advisement! Will do both a self-measure and see a local tailor (he does military uniforms, and yes, they do seem baggy as the asumption is we WILL expand over time!).

The best advice that I can give when it comes to ordering from Mr. Magnoli is the more detail you give him, the better your results will be. In the case of a three piece suit, if you wear your pants higher or lower than you natural waist, this will help him in getting the vest length correct. If you do wear your pants higher/lower than you natural waist, give him that measurement for the waist of you pants. Also, it is better to error on the side of too loose than too tight. You can always take the garment to a local tailor if it is too baggy. But if it is too tight, there is only so much you or anyone can do short of reordering the garment.

As of yet, I cannot responsisbly buy a Magnoli Suit, but I do dream of owning one. Especially the Dillinger. Yowza.
