Irene was a bust here -- nothing but a lot of wind, pretty much no rain at all. Our concert went on as scheduled Sunday nite, with about a hundred people showing up, and I didn't get to use my emergency flashlight even once. There were some power outages in the outlying, but nothing more than a flicker or two here.

We lost power for 8 hrs on Sunday but there are still a ton of people in my town and surrounding towns without power. So, we're very grateful! My county got hit the worst with the outages. There are a ton of trees and wires down. It's just a mess!

I'm in NYS, so mid-atlantic, not New England.

The New York State thruway (state run toll road) is closed eastbound from Syracuse to Albany because of flooding- that's about 140 miles that is sporadically under significant water. It is closed westbound from near Albany to Herkimer (about 60 miles). They need to check the bridges too. The whole center of the state the roads are next to impassible until the water goes down. The nearby dams are holding, although there is significant spill over. The death toll in NYS is at 6. There is significant damage- power outages, downed trees, and such- the further east you go.

It is much worse in Vermont. Some towns in Vermont state are totally cut off because their bridges were swept away. Whole houses and cabins are gone as well, swept away by the water. They are trying to drop in supplies to the isolated towns. One of the bridges was a 100-year old covered bridge- they have film of it being swept away. :(
