LIFE magazine lists combat deaths, July 1943

While perusing through Google Book's collection of LIFE magazines, I ran across this story in the July 5, 1943, issue. They listed the names of all combat-related deaths of the American military from the first 18 months of the war by state. The lists would soon grow.

The library at my university had bound copies of London Illustrated News. It was a weekly magazine. During WWI they listed the officers who died during that week and the names numbered in the hundreds week in and week out.
