When my step-dad died, none of his kids wanted his "junky old stuff", including his watches, so my mom gave it to me.

It's not at a watch restoration specialist dude that a friend knows...it's a 1964 International Watch Company watch. Personal engraving on the back and serial numbers correctly date it to 1964.

When I get it back I'll post some photos...I think it's a real find. I didn't know diddly about IWC until I took the watch out and started examining it closely.

IWC is one of the top Swiss watch manufacturers.

Maybe.

I started out with a simple harmless Timex. I mean, all my friends were doing them..I didn't inhale.

Then it didn't seem any harm in just trying a little Seiko. Just once. Or twice.

When Japanese no longer wound me up, it was the hard stuff - sapphire crystals and stainless cases - yes... ....Swiss. Hard core. I could no longer deny I had a problem.

I tried to quit. I did. I mean it's embarassing to go into the shakes at the Omega display. No good; hooked.

I'm recovering day by day but I still dream of the smooth, well aged American stuff. Just a quick shot of an Illinois or a Bulova..a little Whittnauer and Coke maybe.

Just kidding of course, but do beware! Watches are indeed addicitive. I've purposely not gotten too much into them as I can predict the end result

There are many here who know more about watches than I do, but I'm enjoying learning.

I did need a better watch though, and many thanks to all here who recommended the Hamiltons. I'm now waiting for a Boulton to arrive.

On a side note (after I'd made the order), my wife mentioned my Hamilton shopping to my mother-in-law. The mother-in-law responds with "Gee I've got three old Hamiltons of your Dad's in a drawer - come over and take any one you wish!"

Turns out the old man was a Hamilton lover from way back. These could be from any period as he was born in the early Twenties and died in the mid Ninties. As he's gone now, the watch getting a second life in the family pleases both my wife and my mother-in-law.

I've not seen these yet as I'm out of town on business, but will on Saturday. I'll post what I find. I hope one of the three is in decent shape, but I'm certainly not complaining in any case. I do appreciate my mother-in-law's offer. In-family vintage is hard to beat.

Great news on the old Hammies.Post them up, I can't wait to see them.
I have to have sapphire on my everyday Hamilton,but there is nothing like a nice acrylic crystal on an old timer.They don't reflect the light like the sapphire,and they have some depth to them.I just gathered up about 5 oldies to try to trade up with an online dealer.
On your new Boulton did you get a quartz or Mechanical?

I normally like blue and brown together, but as Martini said, the face and band don't look good together. And I'm not a fan of brown and black combos.

Can you get the blue one with a black band?

I'm in the ivory face/brown strap crowd. But if limited to those three... the first if the best choice, IMNHSO.

I'd go with the black face if they would put it on the black band. Fun casual look. Or, just buy all three and change the bands around.

I like the blue watch with brown leather, myself. It shows a bit of dash and panache. A watch should be noteworthy in some way IMO.

If this is a "form follows function" question, the easiest watch face among these to read in low light is black with luminescent reverse numerals.

But this isn't, is it?
