Hey Loungers,

Possibly looking into buying a leather coat. What are the options as far as makers go? I know Aero, SB, Lost Worlds, Eastman and Schott all do some sort of leather coat variation. Anyone else I have missed?

Thanks

If you want to save yourself a few bob may I suggest that any leather 'jacket' in the classifieds from one of the ''three inches below the belt is how I like em brigade' can be considered. KAPOW!!

But if aiming for something that's stylish, and if willing to go direct,Thedi is another maker you can look at

What Sort of style do you have inn mind? Length? Coat as in overcoat? Do you want it to fit over a suit jacket?

There are plenty of threads on this subject in the Lounge. Rather than wait for people to repeat themselves, I’d use the search function on the right hand side of the page.

Already had a look through different threads on this forum which is how I got the list. I guess what I'm really asking/looking for is a hidden gem? Seems to me that Aero and Lost Worlds are by far the most popular options

Definitely an overcoat/car coat. It's a bit of a toss up between the three Lost Worlds coats at the moment. Wish I could just buy all three.

Just keep in mind, that if you buy standard Bedford, Pea coat or Downtown, it will be made of their +4oz horsehide. If you haven't had heavy horsehide jackets before you will be in for a surprise. For first few months such a jacket is still standing up even if you are sitting down...

Edit: but don't let that scare you away from LW. You can ask for a little lighter hh, goat or deerskin if you don't want to deal with the long break in period.

Feeling like a turtle, right? That’s how I feel at least when I jump in the car the first few times wearing new jackets made out of thick leather.

Well, I've never been a turtle, so that didn't come to my mind, but yeah, I could imagine that a huge turtle sitting in a car might feel like I feel with a new stiff jacket.

Lol yeah never been a turtle either! I was referring at the jacket staying in a straight position due to its stiffness with the collar riding up to your ears when sitting down. And I feel like either I have no neck or a turtle retracting his head!

I understood what you meant. Just tried to be clever. I should listen to my wife and never try that. :)

Sloan's right, and as well as searching through previous threads, keep an eye on E-Bay. Sometimes an absolute bargain can pop up. Although not leather, and in this case, not E-Bay, I came across a genuine 40's vintage trench coat for just £15. It was on sale in a shop that we call charity shops, that's shops where members of the public bring in their cast offs and they are then sold on, benefitting the charity.
I've also lost money and in this case it was a leather coat. I let a full length leather coat go fairly cheaply because to me it had an air of Gestapo about it. It was like this but without the trench appearance:

By coincidence on a trip to Salisbury today, I saw in the window of a vintage specialist shop, called Foxtrot Vintage, a leather Trenchcoat in brown. They were asking £120 for it. There seems to be some slight damage on the left shoulder, perhaps the fastening button for the epaulette had been ripped off. The coat was a size 44, very tempted.
This photo is of the shop window, look up Foxtrot to see if there's a better photo. (I can only find a Facebook page.)
