Lapel pin on a hat...

I have a DC3 lapel pin with the standard lapel pin thingy on the back (forgot what it is called). Is there a good way to put that on a hat? Obviously the pin cannot stick through the hat. Would you just bend the pin down or is there a better way to do it? I have searched but haven't found the answer.

Does the pinback have those two little "ear" thingies?

If it's that kind of deal, if you take care and use patience you can put the pin in the bow, either the center or in the ears of the bow and put the pinback back onto the pin without piercing the felt of the hat, the pin would be only in the bow and the pinback wouldn't be inside the hat.

It's kind of tricky to do, and depending on the size of the pinback you may have to really work with it, but it can be done. If your bow is really "fluffy" and not flat to the hat, you may have better luck.

Otherwise, just jab it in through the bow and felt, but not the sweatband, and hope it stays...

using a "super" glue to attach a pin clip. Some of the "super" glues today are stedfast and permanent.

This is just what I did and it is working great,I used a small safety pin, cut it down on one side and super glued it onto the back of the pin, now I have a way to stick the safety pin into the hat ribbon and it holds on really nice.

Is it still possible to get a "Classic Style","Fedora Lounge" Logo Pin? Like the one Stoney has on one of his own Custom made Lids?

I tried awhile back by going to the site and it wouldn't allow me to order/buy one there?

Can anybody shine some light on this?

I'd love to add one of these to my Pin Collection. [huh]

It's better to silver solder the pin on the back of the plane, rather than use super glue.

I used silver solder to repair a damaged aviation pin with very good results.

Magnets

I've had good luck with rare earth magnets. They're small, thin and really powerful. Just snip off the prong and epoxy one magnet to the back of the pin. Slip the other magnet under the ribbon or even inside the hat and you're pin stays in play without damaging ribbon or felt.

Magnets

I've found good magnets at Lowes, Home Depot, almost any decent hardware store will have them. Good thing is they're pretty cheap, too. A couple of bucks will buy you about a dozen or more.

I've seen a large number of ladies broaches that are held on with magnets as well. This is a great idea and like the broaches allows the pin to be attached securely without making any holes in the hat.
