Knock Knock, Who's There? No Joke....

I can't believe it. I was about to get discouraged. I bought and paid for hats over two weeks ago on the bay and from a lounger (both state-side) and am still waiting..........

Now, I am sitting at home, the dog starts barking and knock knock.....

A big box arrives with EMS stickers all over it.....Unbelievable.....I confirmed an order for a Moonstone Fed IV and a Tawny Fed III from Hats Direct (in Australia!) on Wednesday! That's right Wednesday....not last Wednesday....two days ago! The hats are here! Unbelievable. The people at Hats Direct responded to emails within an hour, and within 52 hours of my confirmation, the hats are here, all the way from Australia! What excellent customer service!

I ordered a Campdraft as well. None in stock in my size....Will ship when they arrive in stock. I paid for three hats (Fed III, Fed IV and Campdraft) and shipping from Australia....total cost, less than $250.00. Two of the three hats arrive in two days! I am so impressed.....Love the colors....

Now comes the trauma.....they are both open crown! I have never bashed a hat in my life! At least the Mid-South Gathering is next week and I can get some help.....I know what I am going to do tomorrow morning. I hope I don't ruin them! Wish me luck....at least I know replacements are only two days away!

Virtually impossible! No worries. If you do a Youtube search for the Federation, you'll find a video of me (with odd voice distortion that I couldn't fix) creasing one.

You can get a good start if you just give'em a karate chop down the middle of the crown, put a couple pinches in the front, and curl the brim at the sides. All dry.

Wear them that way for awhile and you'll find over time that you and your hats find compatible shapes. Then you can bring out the spray bottle and put more definite shapes into them.

I have tawny fawn and moonstone Feds myself. I love both colors and the way one or or both coordinate with anything I put on.

That is amazing service! I ordered an Akubra from HatsDirect several months ago, and had it delivered within a few days time. I know others here speak very highly of them, too.

Have fun bashing the crowns. Others on the Lounge give fantastic advice about doing this, and it is not nearly the intimidating job you may first make it out to be. I received an open crown from one of Johnnyphi's auctions last summer, and put a diamond bash in the crown. That was my first experience creasing my own hat, and got the hang of using steam and making the creases fairly easily.

The Akubras are tough, just dont put a real tight crease in and it should come right out to crease again.

That's a bummer on the purchases/deals you made with the "private" parties two weeks ago and still no hats Portolan.

It is amazing that some people just don't have their sheet together. And by being the slovenly folks they are, they impact others.

I ordered two hats yesterday. DM has shipped already (should be here by Tuesday) and Hats Direct sent notice that their hat will be out to me in the next "dispatch" and to expect it in 5-9 days.

Keep us posted on the ones you are still waiting for. I hope that they will be worth your wait.
