Hello everyone !

I am new member, I come from Paris and I'm looking for a short time to vintage hats.

There is a hat that I'd like to find but I can not find. This is Johnny Depp's hat brown.

Some told me it was a "Borsalino Alessandria" and others tell me it is a "Stetson Stratoliner"!

Here's the link: http://www.johnnydepp-zone.com/deppartment/catcflosangeles.php

Does anyone experienced knows what it is?

Also, I found sites that sell the "Borsalino Alessandria, but the problem is that they sell with brim edges not wide enough for me! (2-1/2 inch):

http://www.bencrafthats.com/product.php?pid=249&subcname=Felt+Hats

Other sites offer it as a replica or the Fedora Caliqo Store:

http://www.caliqo.com/
http://www.thefedorastore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=E1541-depp&CartID=1

I want a size of 2-7/8 inch brim which corresponds to 7.3 cm wide enough then:)

Does someone could help me in my research?

Sincerely.

Ps: sorry for spelling mistakes! and sorry for the triple post ;(

Look at a Mid-Brown Akubra Campdraft. If that is too dark, try the Tawny Fawn shade of brown. HTH

I agree. Identifying the exact hat probably won't help, and his hat is likely a 2 1/2 inch brim. For a wider brim, there's the Campdraft, but I'm not sure if it's as wide as you want. If you are willing to spend in the $300 U.S. range, I recommend getting a custom from Art Fawcett (Vintage Silhouettes) or TonyB (Tumwater Hats), both members here. Show them the pictures and they should be able to make it.

Do men wear hats in France?

yes they wear hats too modern for my taste!
In France, they like the beret:)
In general, in the street, you meet more caps than hats!

An Alessandria with a 2 1/2 inch brim is a real good looking hat. Plus, there is still in my opinion such a difference between the hand of a Borsalino and that of an Akubra that the Borsalino is worth it (at Bencraft's prices).

Everything Australian lists the Camp Draft as having a 73 mm brim. I'll second the motion that you look at one of those in mid-brown. toobacat posted a pic of a mid-brown CD a while back and it's a real beauty! Also check out the thread for the "Brotherhood of the Thin Ribbon." There may be other alternatives in that thread that would suit your needs. If you can get the brim width and crown height right, you can make everything else work (in terms of looks) by swapping out the ribbon, changing the shape of the brim, etc. The Akubra felt may be quite a bit different, though. I've never handled a Borso, so I don't really know.

Welcome to the Lounge, keox11!

If bencraft offers Borsalino Alessandria with a brim 2 7 / 8 inch, I take everything away!

My problem is the brim! I like them quite as large as in this video:

In this link at www.hats.com is the Borsalino WB Traveler hat I bought with 2 7/8 inch brim.

As I say other retailers have other models with the same brim, but you have to search. www.hatalog.com may also have, but you probably have to e-mail or call special for it.

thank you for your answers!

They advised me to customize my hat if I ever can not find what I want. A site customization is apparently:

http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/index.htm

I sent them an email to see if they could make a hat like the one I want. I do not know their price!

Does someone has already make a hat at this site? Are they reliable?

That's Art Fawcett, check out the following thread:
http://thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=13616

I do not yet own one of Art's hats, but you can bet I'm saving up for one. Even though I am not yet one of Art's customers, I don't think I'm out of line in saying that you can't go wrong with one of his hats.

I hope that with the pictures, videos of the hat, they will not go wrong in the manufacture!

Not being an expert in the specifications of hats, I can not give them all the characteristics of the hat to Johnny Depp! Even the brim of 2 7 / 8 is an estimate on my part;)

The question is whether it is possible, just by looking at photos, complete all the main features of the hat to make it ... ?

if the price is affordable, I am ready to pay for a hat that I love!

I've had 2 made by Art at Vintage Silhouettes. Very reliable. Great product for the price.

How long does the process of the hat? in how many weeks you have received at home? and how much it costs about?
