I am shopping for a leather jacket for Montana winters. My otherwise satisfactory B-3 has an unanticipated fit problem. In an earlier thread I asked about sheepskin's thickness and durability. My Aero B-3 had (thank goodness for past tense) a sleeve tear that has been repaired. What I obtained from thread's replies is that a jacket having more durable outer [leather] AND high-insulating sheepskin or heavy wood lining its interior solves the problem for a lifetime's use.
Okay, to the question. Among (alphabetical order) Aero, Cirrus, Eastman, Lost Worlds, and Real McCoy, which horsehide or goatskin jackets are capable - perhaps via additional cost option - of having a sheepskin or 26+ ounce wool liner? I ask because these makers appear to offer myriad options, some of which they do not list or otherwise identify.
While I prefer the trimness of a flight-type jacket, utility trumps looks. A sheepskin collar is preferred, but absence is not a deal breaker. Pockets - lots of cargo and hand warmer pockets - are strongly preferred.
The "Barnstormer" with sheepskin collar and liner was identified. My experience with buttons when compared with zippers and "storm shield" is not good. But I have zero experience with buttons secured in leather. The B-2, were additional pockets obtainable, appears to be a solution, but obtaining one is problematic, especially since new-jacket cost is either high or extremely high.
Suggestions or recommendations? . . . Any used jackets in size 42, more or less?
