Canada Customs doesn't like it when you're ordering leather jackets from the UK or anywhere else in Europe...? I ordered back in May this nice jacket from Cirrus: http://www.flyingjacket.com/products/leather-flying-motoring-jackets/ben-jacket/ with some modifications and "custom made" but it seems when it was shipped by DHL, Canada Customs decided that they under estimated my coat at Cirrus, therefore they charged me an extra 200$ of duty to clear it at the border. Has that ever happened to any of you guys? What was your experiences with customs when ordering your baby leather coat from any of our favourite leather maker?

I am sorry that you've had sooo much extra costs - but the jacket its worth it ...never saw this model - can you give more information about it and post pics wearing your jacket .... just enjoyed it.
I ordered mostly of my jacket from Aero and since I lived in Europe I didnt have those problems like you did...if I would ordered form the US I also have to pay about 40% extra duty fees.

BTW: "Nachtengel" is a german word thats means night angel, right?
Thanks

Happens here in Australia too. Had to pay $150 tax on top on one jacket I got from the UK 8 years back. Hasn't happened since. I don't mind paying tax.

Yep I got caught with my first/only jacket purchase from the US, got a bill for £110 about a week after the jacket arrived and two days after I'd realised it didn't fit :(. I was totally ignorant of customs charges at the time, oh well lesson learnt.

it is indeed a lesson learned but i am still baffled at the sheer amount of the duty i have to pay for the coat. I mean, it's not like i've ordered alcohol or tobacco, which i do understand it is highly regulated and taxed at Customs, but whatever happened to the fact of opening one self to other country goods and experiences? :D

Anyhow, i can't wait to see it and be able to wear it. The few modifications i've made were the jacket color, which will be oxblood, the masonic buttons are black and gold, a grandfather's heirloom and it will be slightly longer than the one displayed in the link above to go just below my bum. I can't wait and of course i will display pictures for everyone to see.

Also yes, Nachtengel means night angel in German...took that name from a long lost friend back then who used to call me that...

CDN$200? :eeek: Fortunately I've not been hit by US Customs yet. Then again, perhaps that is one of the benefits of ordering through Aero USA; allegedly they handle all the Customs paperwork for you.

Yes, maybe i should have gone to Aero to make my order as i hear a lot of positive reviews about them...maybe a racer coat or a Eastman USAAF B-3...ah spending and control, almost unbearable...DHL now told me it should be a day or two before i can receive my coat...why am i getting nervous right now, almost as excited as my first christmas.
